Simple 3-point plan:
Let Russia lay down its weapons and go home;
Let Russia release all Ukrainians it's holding;
Let Russia pay enough cash money to Ukraine for its rebuilding, plus a penalty for attacking.

The number of British programs where they mention they lost someone due to Covid. I think New Zealanders totally underestimate how lucky (and well managed) we were. The still loud antivax voice/Covid deniers doesn't help. Much harder to deny Covid exists when everyone knows someone who lost someone.

I really hope Golriz gets left alone in 2026.

She suffered more than enough.

So the supermarkets have breached Golriz’s privacy and were called out by the Privacy Commissioner.

1) Where’s the public apology and cost of damages to Golriz
2) When are these weird men going to stop obsessing over her and other women of colour in politics?

Reflecting that governments deeply invested in retaining the status quo do little to repair any kind of prior erosion or devastation, so reinforce the damage done.
Aspirational governments get more done because change is the focus - rocking the boat is seen as both a vital need and an accepted risk:

David Seymour who made such a racket about the govt spending $3m on lunches for 1000s of school kids, but is pushing for charter schools which, so far, have cost $10.9m and only have 427 kids enrolled for next year.

What a nasty little ghoul.
Seymour: let's not make "assumptions" that a serious food safety incident is the responsibility of a company with a record of food safety incidents so bad that officials strongly warned against contracting it. Maybe it was the person who reported it! What a prick. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/christchu...

I don’t know enough about what other countries did but we went hard and early (well just in time as it turned out). Being an island nation maybe helped a little but New Zealanders are huge international travellers. Our government took advice from public health experts.
Why didn’t it work elsewhere? Why were many countries unaffected by special disease load without lockdowns? As a scientist, I keep wondering about these questions.
