An outright freeze on the industry like Atari saw in the 80s before Nintendo moved in is functionally impossible now.

But I think we're going to see making games become a riskier business proposition and a slightly more niche creative outlet for a while before things stabilize and can recover.

I've met Hall and I've got friends that met Romero. All of this post 2010 but it sounds like they're just both the most lovely of people and it's a shame the whole of id doesn't seem to be that way.

I just learned that John Carmack misgendered and deadnamed Rebecca Heineman in his "tribute" over on Twitter. He probably thinks it's okay when talking pre-transition days, but FYI, most trans people hate that. Worse, he never calls her "she," switching to "they" for recent memories. Fuck that guy.

every time I consider learning more Unreal I remember I'd have to actually touch C++ instead of a language that won't make me tear my hair out due to things like this and I run straight back to Godot.
"if you pass an array to a function it can no longer tell how big it is, you have to tell the function how big the array is in advance" - they made the language wrong then!

(i am joking but it is funny finding out how much harder this is than c# or python)

Sometimes I hate myself for the kind of gameplay ideas I have, coding this tumbling block physics with the screws was SOO hard

But I'm happy that the block puzzles are getting more varied and better integrated with the platforming, pacing and all

Part of me really wants to price any game I make at about the twenty five euro mark, never discount it, and raise the price by five euro every time a content pack is added, finalising at about hundred euro... and I only post a pointing to a whiteboard meme image to anyone asking about seasonal sales

3 years ago today, Riot Games offered me a job making more money than I ever thought I’d make in my life. I had 19 interviews over 2.5 months to get it. Partner and I were moving to LA for it. I put in notice at my job and apartment.

2 weeks later they rescinded the offer due to “headcount issues”.
