Hello lovely people!

I write sci-fi fantasy as Ekaterine Xia.

Main posting themes: food, language, disability, chronic illness.

Will sometimes post wishes under #願

Between AuDHD and disability, I don't pay attention to notifications other than mentions and don't automatically follow back.
As an autistic starch loving Chinese person, all the people going “you don’t need to give up rice! You can put all sorts of grains and beans and lentils in and it will be good for you!” are missing the point 🥲
I like white rice as a plain canvas. Adding lots of flavors and textures is not it.

I am not aware of a single author who has a shortage of book ideas. Words, yes. Ways to make the ideas become a book, yes. But I've never met an author who doesn't have ideas just raining down all the damn time.

you get ONE. the place where you live. If you buy another one, and you're not moving into it and selling the first one? TAXES. IF you buy another one and it's not being given to someone else as their primary residence? TAXES. If you want to charge rent? buddy, fuck you. TAXES.

I really want us to stop having these *What you need is segregation* solutions to bigotry, discrimination, and harassment.

No.

What we need is to make it dangerous to be toxic, hold people accountable, demand and expect better of everyone, and to build SAFE, inclusive spaces and events.

So we are going to bring forth a world where anyone who wants to be a lone wolf is welcome to walk into the woods without a single damn thing a global community made for him, and perish howling at the moon.

The rest of us will live in a society.

The concept of “countries” is ridiculous and we need to move past it somehow.
Bring back trial by combat, but affecting the combatants only.
Every single person on this planet deserves to have all of their most basic needs met plus UBI. Yes this includes healthcare with dental and mental support.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Me, now: I want to fit an unrealistic number of crab rangoons in my mouth.

I guess today is just weird for being That Day for encountering fanatically nationalist people and I just wanna be like, no one owes you death and misery and total devastation.
When a civilian is all “rah rah let’s invade”, it’s like, you won the birth lottery, yay, leave us alone.

Wearing respies meant that I did not miss a beat.

I was out and about swabbing COVID positive patients, and going supermarket shopping… not infected and not spreading anything.

Wearing masks is the opposite of shutting down. It’s incredibly empowering in the face of infectious disease.
November 16, 2025 at 10:21 AM
People are still masking in Taiwan. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Life hasn’t shut down here, btw.
Not everyone, no, but many are.
And I can’t help but notice every single time on mass transit I hear someone coughing wetly in that gnarly way, it’s someone unmasked.

The Seattle Symphony Hall at Benaroya is at 5CH. You can feel the breeze on the back of your neck during performances. Most people need to understand this: while you get sick and die, the rich have implemented mitigation prevention policies in the places they go.

Tbh I can get the “if there has gotta be empire why not our empire” mentality from the Chinese.
But as someone living in a place they’ve decided is theirs and casually talk about bombing the heck out of…yeah no. Can’t get into it.
I ended up quitting the book because the author is very “Chinese empire is good” and tbh I’m not here for empire 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s a pity; the book was well written and seems well researched, but yeah.
November 16, 2025 at 8:34 AM
Learning that the Chinese have given their emperors nicknames is absolutely deliciously delightful but it gets better when you learn that they gave them “girl” names like Wendy for 文帝 and Judy for presumably 朱帝 😂

Alice's work at Teen Vogue:
www.teenvogue.com/contributor/...

(I saw a post going around—that I can't reply to—saying her column has been deleted, but I found her words via this page.)
Her last post was about being laid off from Teen Vogue. Terrible.
Heartbroken to hear of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social ‘s transition to be a crip anscestor AND feeling so honored to have been alive in the time as this brilliant human, and gotten to learn from her.

May her memory continue to always be a blessing.

HOLY SHIT. They found the genes for fibromyalgia - and it's *not* autoimmune, it's the central nervous system. It's very cool to see some progress made on the thing that's ruined my life since late teenage years!
Medical Republic: 'Fibromyalgia finally gets a genetic fingerprint'

'Additionally, certain risk loci overlapped with long covid (BPTF) and ME/CFS (OLFM4, RABGAP1L/GPR52), two poorly characterised disorders, albeit with different lead variants.'

Fibromyalgia finally gets a genetic fingerprint - Medical Republic
A massive global study links the chronic pain condition to 26 genes associated with brain signalling, marking a turning point in understanding its biological roots.

Also tbh the idea that the average layperson can become expert enough in any field to have a nuanced and meaningful take on policy is frankly 98% of why we are in any given mess.
No, a weekend of reading is not gonna make you an expert on anything and some they’all don’t even do that much.
I do not want to “Do my own research.” I want to pay trained accredited experts to do the research, trained accredited experts to report on findings, and trained accredited experts to make policy based on them.

I am busy af with my own job, I don’t need to do eight zillion more.

Power gradients can be so steep that NO consent is ever possible.
November 15, 2025 at 2:00 PM
Also why tbh teacher student relationships seriously squick me out. Even in fantasy where they live thousands of years. Still gross.
There's a reason no ethical lawyer will ever sleep with a client whether or not there is apparent consent. The power gradient is just too steep. No consent can ever be truly freely given. Enthusiastic, informed consent cannot be freely given if there are even implied consequences for saying no.

For real the greatest culture shock I had when moving to Taiwan from Boston (USA), is that concept of “room temperature”.
🥲
Internet: muffins will keep at room temp for 3-4 days.
After a few rounds of “this doesn’t taste right” to “outright mold”, I looked up “what exactly the hell is room temp”.

Can’t stop thinking about Alice Wong today. I couldn’t do any of what I’ve done and hope to do with disability justice in libraries without the foundation she laid, and I suspect that’s true of a lot of people in a lot of different disciplines.

I hope she knew what an impact she made.

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon
