a lot of postwar fascism’s energy has been spent on finding points of entry, wandering around outside the liberal house and trying every window and door
So it goes without saying, but let's say it anyway: the concentration of attacks on trans people isn't because trans people are the only people fascists hate (although they absolutely do hate them). It's because they're the people they think non-fascists are least likely to defend.

I went on a reporting trip to Hungary in late 2010, Orbán's Fidesz had recently returned to power with a big majority. People we met, incl journalists and NGOs, were scared to talk openly about the political situation, and that was only a few months in.

A remarkable statement: Jeff Bezos decrees that henceforth, the Washington Post opinion pages will serve the rightwing political project.

Probably self-evident to many people, but I think it’s worth unpacking why that is explicitly and unequivocally what this statement means:
Holy shit. Jeff Bezos is turning the Washington Post editorial page into.... the Wall Street Journal editorial page.

This is the “war on women’s sports”.

See also: fewer than ten trans college athletes in a cohort of, what was it? Half a million?
Since the IOC has created a rule for trans athletes to compete in 2003, over 81,000 people have become Olympians. Out of those 81,000, a total of 2 have been trans women & one came dead last the other came 37th & neither were from the 🇺🇸, 🇬🇧 or 🇦🇺

used to describe these companies and I think its quite apt.
internally at Meta:
-trans and nonbinary themes stripped from Messenger
-enforcement policy now allows for the denial of trans people's existence
-tampons removed from men's restrooms
-DEI programs shuttered
