It feels harder to get people to care when the nation is currently under a White House that is trying to weaken or gut the Endangered Species Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and firing thousands of federal staff involved with conservation.
Seabird Conservation Is an Emotional Roller Coaster, But It's Worth the Ride
Members of a five-person crew who spend their summers tending to puffins, terns, and other sea birds on Seal Island, Maine, share what it's like to do this essential work despite a changing climate and a hostile administration.

The Trump Administration is looking to change that. It proposed changing the federal Endangered Species Act, so that destroying an animal's natural habitat would not count as committing "harm" to the species
The effect would be the same, changing the endangered species to extinct.

The endangered species act protects the polar bear, and it’s diminishing sea ice habitat, but did you know the polar bear is a marine mammal, and gains additional protections afforded from the MMPA?

(guess what industry doesn’t like rules against the polar bears??)

Write to your members of Congress TODAY and tell them to vote NO on the Fix Our Forests Act. It would undermine forests and endangered species protections, harm drinking water, and worsen deadly wildfires. Don't let them and Trump give industry a handout.

I keep thinking about how the Endangered Species Act came to be under a Republican administration, and conservation used to be really important to conservatives not just for hunting/fishing/outdoor recreation but because they valued our incredibly rich ecology on its own merit.

Positive News:
Green turtles came back from the brink.

The species came off the ‘endangered’ list. It offers hope at a time when more species are being added to the IUCN’s red list.
61% of bird species are now in decline.
Coordinated actions can reverse populations at risk of extinction.

Be creative and there are plenty of legal actions you can take.

Look to see if they are expanding offices or manufacturing plants. Find an endangered species living there or environmental reports to prevent expansion.
Do they have investors? Who are their service providers? What company cleans their offices, collects their trash, payroll company, benefits provider, etc?

Make it uncomfortable for them to do business.

Companies are not untouchable. There are plenty of legal avenues to exert pressure.
