Nevada’s lone Congressional Republican, U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, announced he is retiring from Congress at the end of his term.

Amodei has represented the reliably Republican-leaning Congressional District 2, which included Washoe County and most of rural Nevada, since 2011.

A legal effort to derail NV Energy’s attempt to change the way it calculates customers’ bills will be heard in Clark County District Court, Judge Mary Kay Holthus ruled Tuesday. Holthus rejected a motion filed by the utility and the Public Utilities Commission to consolidate the case with another.

The city of Reno has paid $200,000 to two plaintiffs in a lawsuit involving a Reno police officer. The case stems from traffic stops conducted by Reno Police Officer Tyler Baehr, during which Baehr allegedly copied intimate photos from the smartphones belonging to women he pulled over.

🍺 Brew HaHa celebrated its 31st year Jan. 31 at the Nugget Casino Resort. Held in the upstairs convention center, the ticketed event brought together local craft breweries and national companies to pour beer, liquor, seltzers and other beverages while raising money for the Sierra Arts Foundation.

The latest report from the GLAAD extremism reporting tracker finds 932 anti-LGBTQ+ incidents nationwide between May 2024 and May 2025, resulting in 84 injuries and 10 deaths.

Overall, it finds, incidents are down 20% year over year, but attacks targeting transgender people are up 14%.

Student internships in the Washoe County School District have increased by over 1,100% in just two years. At the beginning of the work-based learning program within WCSD’s Career and Technology Education umbrella, roughly 14 students were able to participate — now, that number has jumped to 170.

The Nevada Supreme Court in late December affirmed a decision by a local judge to suppress evidence from an arrest that occurred in 2024. Reno police were surveilling in March 2024 a member of the Mongols motorcycle club, who was wanted in a felony case.

A spotted gray wolf has left his California pack and trotted across Silver State lines, wildlife biologists said. The wolf crossed into Nevada on Monday, according to a Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesperson.

To date, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office and Washoe County District Attorney's Office have blocked all requests for information. This includes even the most basic of details, like what color the car was, who it belonged to, and whether or not Scott's movements for the days leading up were known.

Reno’s city manager is recommending that the mayor and city council approve a contract with the Simons Hall Johnston law firm to negotiate labor agreements over the next three years. The contract is proposed for up to $300,000 per year and a total cost of up to $900,000.
