Carson City area weather: Strong winds, valley rain and Sierra snow expected with storm
Warm and dry conditions will continue through Tuesday, followed by a storm system that will reach Carson City and surrounding counties by late Wednesday, bringing strong winds, valley rain and heavy Sierra snow to the region, according to the National Weather Service. The arriving storm has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Watch from 1 a.m. Thursday to 4 a.m.

Sierra Nevada Realtors released its October 2025 report Monday on existing home sales in Carson City along with Churchill, Douglas, Lyon and Washoe counties (excluding Incline Village). SNR obtains its information from the Northern Nevada Regional Multiple Listing Service. October housing market highlights include: Across all five counties, the median sales price for single-family homes is $575,000, with each region seeing a slightly higher median sales price compared to October 2024.

More than 500 members of the Nevada National Guard are furloughed and working without pay and more than 500 additional members are under threat of not receiving their next paycheck.

Hundreds of Nevada National Guardsmen and women are furloughed and continue to work without pay as the state and Nevada nonprofits have increasingly stepped up to support Soldiers and Airmen during the record-setting government shutdown. Government Shutdown by the numbers: ·      There are 455 dual-status technicians furlough or working without pay during the shutdown. Dual-Status Technicians (DSTs) are full time uniformed Guard members but are paid as federal civilian employees.

Carson City sheriff’s weekend bookings: store customer throws items, breaks pin pad machine
A 48-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of gross misdemeanor destruction of property and misdemeanor battery, harassment and disorderly conduct, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report. Deputies were called at 11:27 a.m. to a convenience store on Highway 50 East in reference to a threats report. Deputies arrived and made contact with the reporting party (RP) who advised they and a co-worker had to escort a customer out of the store after the customer began acting out.

As the winter season approaches, Carson City School District’s McKinney-Vento program is in need of new youth coats (boys and girls – all sizes) and new teen/junior sweatshirts and jackets (all sizes) for students in need this winter season. The community-driven initiative aims at ensuring all students have access to warm clothing during the cold months. Adequate winter clothing can significantly impact a student's ability to focus and thrive in the classroom.

In honor of Veterans Day, the Rotary Club of Carson City will welcome retired United States Air Force Command Pilot and U-2 pilot Major Roger Mostar to its next club meeting. The team removed 1,933 pounds of litter, consisting of 1,042 individual items, from 6.1 miles of lakebed and 4.75 miles of shoreline. Commonly recovered materials included 248 glass bottles, 21 anchors, and a range of metal, plastic and recreational debris.
Going the depths for Tahoe: Clean Up the Lake completes Deep Dive Pilot Project
Nonprofit organization Clean Up The Lake has completed its Tahoe Deep Dive Pilot Project, an ambitious research and cleanup effort exploring litter accumulation and aquatic health between 35 and 55 feet beneath the surface of Lake Tahoe. Using Diver Propulsion Vehicles and Nitrox, the team tested advanced deep-water methods to increase diver efficiency and safety while gathering critical data to guide future large-scale underwater cleanup operations.

By Christy Chamberlain — Part Nevada history, part U.S. history and entirely genuine, The Sword and the Shield: A Life of Duty and Honor is the memoir of Carson City resident and retired Douglas County sheriff’s deputy Jim Bagwell. He recounts his life and experiences growing up in the 1950s near Hawthorne, Nev., before enlisting in the Air Force, serving in Vietnam, and returning to Nevada, where he worked in law enforcement for 32 years.

The St. Teresa of Avila Conference, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a nonprofit organization that helps those living in poverty, was awarded a $20,000 Systemic Change Grant from St. Vincent d Paul USA to conduct a 12-month Motel 2 Home pilot project. SVdP will collaborate on the community outreach program with the Carson City School District McKinney-Vento Program (Hannah Etchison), the Northern Nevada Dream Center (Susan Sorenson) and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center (Scott Morgan).

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is warning customers to be on alert for online scams posing as DMV services. The notice follows a recent report from a resident who visited a fraudulent website, which appeared to be the official DMV website, and communicated via chatbot with an “employee” to assist in booking an appointment. The customer was asked to provide personal information, including a driver’s license number, social security number, and payment details for a fake “appointment fee.”

Veteran Pet Support program helps keep pets and their heroes together
Feeding Pets of the Homeless, a national nonprofit based in Carson City dedicated to supporting the companion animals of people experiencing homelessness, is raising awareness of its Veteran Pet Support program — designed to help veterans in housing assistance programs access free emergency veterinary care and other critical services for their pets. The program works in partnership with case workers and agencies serving veterans in HUD-VASH and other transitional or supportive housing programs.

The suspected exposure was from inhalation or direct contact with rodent droppings, urine, or nesting material disturbed during household cleaning in the weeks prior to symptom development. The investigation is ongoing.
Health officials investigate Lyon County hantavirus case
Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting a case of hantavirus in Lyon County. The case is a male over 50 years of age. This is the first case of hantavirus reported in Lyon County and the third case in the Carson City, Douglas and Lyon County area in 2025.
