People often ask: what can ordinary people do to stop populists like Trump and Smith from running roughshod over democratic norms?

Populists rely on the widespread perception that their actions are supported by "the majority" and "common people."

Anything that punctures that myth helps. +

This is among the most democratically dangerous things Danielle Smith has said.

She wants to remove all checks and balances on her power and projects herself as the embodiment of "the people."

We have left the realm of liberal democracy in this province.
Smith doubled down on her anti court rhetoric today...

She even seemed to suggest that federally appointed judges couldn't render impartial rulings and that she believed her interpretation should always be above theirs.

With Bill 14, Danielle Smith joined the separatists and is now clearing all legal obstacles to Alberta separating from Canada.

#ForeverCanadian movement won’t sit idle and watch Canada being torn apart!

Albertans, register as supporters at Forever-Canadian.ca

All Canadians can donate.

1. Why are they allowed to access this?
2. What does it matter if the individual leans left-wing? Does the UCP think that Albertans are a monolith? This is a democracy. People have different political views.
Wait WHAT?!?

Dale Nally somehow audited the voting records of Albertans and is using that as a metric for who can initiate recall?

And now all of the applicant statements and member statements have been removed from Elections Alberta?

I have no idea what this loser is even talking about because we didn’t focus on American politics until Trump started a trade war and threatened to annex us.

I didn’t even really pay attention to US politics while Joe Biden was in office.

Also our living standards are higher. But anyways.
So apparently this is fine but Canadian governments using advertising to share views with Americans about trade is completely inappropriate.

Got it.

Hey ladies of Alberta. I think that we should respond to this by not having sex with men in this province at all until the UCP are out of office.
This is a UCP MLA calling for a referendum on abortion inside of the legislature.

They’re coming for abortion.

Under his eye.

The UCP, and their supporters, are claiming that S33 needed to be used to prevent sterilization of children. But no evidence is provided about the amount of surgery occurring below 18 (puberty blockers are not the same thing as surgery). Is it 0, 5, 50, 500, 5000?

Trump and his regime must perish for liberal democracy to survive. There is no way around this.
The rot emanating from him and his people is a stronger challenge for the free world than all external enemies.

The antivaxxers are blaming the measles outbreak in Canada on the Liberals. They are saying that the Liberals brought in mass numbers of immigrants that weren’t vaccinated.

I don’t know what to even think about this.

The UCP are imploding and Take Back Alberta thinks that Danielle Smith is conspiring against them or whatever.
So this is one reason why politicians shouldn’t pander to conspiracy theorists. The politician becomes “the elite”, so things fall apart and it might not end well.

So if Poilievre resigns as leader (and he should), who do we think is a better option to lead the CPC?
We do need to seriously consider who all Canadians would feel more comfortable leading that party.

The NDP found their numbers!

Bill 201 would

- increase minimum wage to $18 over 3 years and then index it to inflation.
- Eliminate the lower "youth" minimum wage (youth don't pay lower prices, after all)
- Ensure tips stay with service staff.

Danielle Smith is such a coward.
Imagine invoking the notwithstanding clause to end a strike, which is an affront to everyone in Alberta who has a job, and then leaving the country.
