Folks attending #AALAS2025: The zebrafish talks are in a venue outside! Cross the Rainbow Bridge (😭) and pass the massive theatre, go around the left side of it. If you see the giant Wyland (remember Wyland???) you are in the right place.

Oi, stickleback researchers!

One of my PhD students is on a quest for lateral-view photographs of sticklebacks (like the one below, obvs not a stickleback). Any population/species, so long as the location and date of collection are known.

Does anyone know where we might find data like this?

We have a winner! The leading vote-getter was @rogerslabucd.bsky.social for her guess ‘Hot air balloon’ 🎈 , which made it across platforms 😮 Other notable guesses include ‘sister chromatids’ and ‘lightbulbs’. For those afraid of fun, the gene was acer1, which marks the tegmentum & anterior tectum. 🧪
Your favorite guessing game has returned to social media! Here's how to play #GuessThatISH:

Let's talk about sex! Research suggests natural zebrafish have WZ/ZZ sex chromosomes as evidenced by a single sex-linked region on chromosome 4. This trait is lost in laboratory fish as sex is determined by multiple genes, with influences from the environment. #ZebrafishFunFacts 🧪
