Truth over opinion. Climate politics and economy (failing alternative to science & policy). Hope can only help when we realize that there are viable alternatives to our political/economic dystopia.

If we wish to #reap the combined #intelligence of #diversity, we need people to #honestly speak up, especially when in #disagreement. We need to learn to embrace #conflict and grow beyond. But first we need to remain #together, notwithstanding our division!
I am in favor if a #GrowthMindset. But it gives me an itch as well. Because this term is used as an incantation formula. I.e. is there anyone opposed to this?

With current pledges, the world's on track for 2.6°C of warming in 2100 compared to preindustrial levels.

10 years ago, before the Paris agreement, it was 3.6°C

20+ years ago, we thought it would be 4-5°C

So 2.6°C is better, but the problem is that climate impacts are way worse than we predicted.
World still on track for catastrophic 2.6C temperature rise, report finds
Fossil fuel emissions have hit a record high while many nations have done too little to avert deadly global heating

How much carbon budget do we have left if we want to stay below 1.5˚C?

Just 2 more years at current rates. It is essentially impossible to avoid global temperature rise exceeding 1.5˚C.

Do people who are not oceanographers know that elephant seals have been helping us collect temperature and salinity data in inhospitable areas of the ocean for the last 20 years?

I completely forgot how awkward electric #cooking used to be. painfully slow and when hit at last, slow to adjust back! Far inferior to gas. Now #induction is fast and extremely adjustable. Superior even to gas!

#psychologie; #sport vs. #intelligentie

it becomes a math problem at a high enough level of abstraction. There are never guarantees that the crow befriended by the dog will have BETTER outcomes, but *statistically* more friends and more DIVERSE friends make you safer :)

Unregulated capitalism isn't good for the poor OR the wealthy. If we had a system to set ethical boundaries for ambitious brains, we could set them competing to solve the most pressing problems for the greatest good without their dumb selfish egos messing everything up.. but that'll be a big shift

and the original argument here was on competition, not capitalism

So you admit that inherently, relying on competition is a bad way to run a society and it’s not an evolutionary advantage .

Thanks and have a good night

Leaving selfish egos room to compete to CHEAT the system is a HUGE problem, yeah. It's supposed to be a government's job to stop that from happening AND to redistribute resources in equitable ways. People just didn't VOTE for that because all science and altruism folks forgot to get good at SALES

this is like saying there’s nothing wrong with pollution, or there’s nothing wrong with deforestation…

There absolutely is something wrong with humans thinking they can change the climate however they want, regardless of how it affects other people, animals, plants, and survival for the future

Maybe, we don't know for sure. We're doing all kinds of things (incl. leaving nuclear waste) that could tip life over. But in any case my point is that it's so often just about us and our future, with disregard for the other, all innocent, life forms whose existence and future we're wrecking.

Even if 95% of all species die, there will be new vibrant ecosystems in 5-30 million years. With new types of animals and plants. This is how it has always been after every mass extinction. I find this fact very comforting.

The earth will be fine?
What gets me is humanity's extraordinary arrogance. The other millions of species on earth, that we are busy harming and destroying at speed, would tell us, if we cared to pay attention, that they are not and will not be fine!

Yes people can sometimes confuse concepts when they use the same measurement unit (degrees of temperature for example).

For example 3 degrees of warming doesn’t sound bad but if a human body’s temperature increases by 3 degrees then the human will die instantly.

Planets are similar.

There's nothing inherently wrong with climate change. It's just that the ecosystems and built environments that we depend on as life support systems aren't equipped to handle the rapid changes. So if we want to live, we should deal with climate change ASAP.

Climate change disproportionately impacts the world’s poor. Even in developed countries, over 80% of people living in poverty face climate-related hazards such as extreme heat and air pollution.
People In Poverty Have The Most At Stake Amid World Climate Talks
Data shows that even in developed nations relatively sheltered from climate change, over 80% of poor people are exposed to at least one climate hazard, like drought, air pollution or extreme heat.

The consequences can be wider: Anybody publishing a KI result publicly might be liable, if what has been published might stem from a book or similar. As some KI learn sources behind paywalls the user is unable to check this. Consequently: Any posting of KI results might be a risk. We‘ll see.

In this case it is about republishing without licence. So if a song (or its lyrics) gets published in the web without getting the ok from the licence holder this is copyright infringement and you become liable. Same with any streaming service and in this case KI repeating close enough lyrics online.
