Truth over opinion. Climate politics and economy (failing alternative to science & policy). Hope can only help when we realize that there are viable alternatives to our political/economic dystopia.
"Come now, let us reason together."
Do you mean #individualization?

That’s another issue.
There sure is a connecting as well as a disconnecting role. The latter especially by Christians opposing others (here’s #competition again). Jesus taught us to be inclusive to others. Many forget this!

I do love the discussion we’re engaged in 😻

There are many alternatives! #TAMA against #TINA

it becomes a math problem at a high enough level of abstraction. There are never guarantees that the crow befriended by the dog will have BETTER outcomes, but *statistically* more friends and more DIVERSE friends make you safer :)

I would oppose any system that makes children a tool for #survival. That system will be exploited, harming the children involved.

The survival of Americans is neither the issue, nor necessarily beneficial to the sustainability of human #society. The same is true for Europeans, which I “belong” to.

Unregulated capitalism isn't good for the poor OR the wealthy. If we had a system to set ethical boundaries for ambitious brains, we could set them competing to solve the most pressing problems for the greatest good without their dumb selfish egos messing everything up.. but that'll be a big shift

and the original argument here was on competition, not capitalism

So you admit that inherently, relying on competition is a bad way to run a society and it’s not an evolutionary advantage .

Thanks and have a good night

Leaving selfish egos room to compete to CHEAT the system is a HUGE problem, yeah. It's supposed to be a government's job to stop that from happening AND to redistribute resources in equitable ways. People just didn't VOTE for that because all science and altruism folks forgot to get good at SALES

I am glad we agree on the substance (zero sum), just not on the wording 🙃.
November 11, 2025 at 9:19 PM
The zero sum version is the only one I know. Competing is completely devoid of love. Let’s not tell stories that say that “War is Peace” (1984).

In Christianity the most powerful are expected to be “ #GoodShepperds” 🙃 . Funny, isn’t it?

Nobility is het not connected to power and opposite to “hubris. 😇

Man has thrived, regardless of an extreme long period of #vulnerability (childhood) ONLY because we learned to #cooperate! It is the survival of the fittest (most adapted to circumstances. If it were the strongest, elephants would definitely rule us! Competition is an economic aberration.

this is like saying there’s nothing wrong with pollution, or there’s nothing wrong with deforestation…

There absolutely is something wrong with humans thinking they can change the climate however they want, regardless of how it affects other people, animals, plants, and survival for the future

Maybe, we don't know for sure. We're doing all kinds of things (incl. leaving nuclear waste) that could tip life over. But in any case my point is that it's so often just about us and our future, with disregard for the other, all innocent, life forms whose existence and future we're wrecking.

Even if 95% of all species die, there will be new vibrant ecosystems in 5-30 million years. With new types of animals and plants. This is how it has always been after every mass extinction. I find this fact very comforting.

The earth will be fine?
What gets me is humanity's extraordinary arrogance. The other millions of species on earth, that we are busy harming and destroying at speed, would tell us, if we cared to pay attention, that they are not and will not be fine!

There is no #climateCliff where all damage is done by crossing one boundary. If we react even later, the #consequences will be worse. It is still “sane” to #act earlier, even when some serious damage can’t be avoided. Don’t give up #hope!
