5 yrs after the start of the worst health crisis in memory, there is a national conversation waiting to be had about the roles of the individual, society and the state in such a crisis. What is my responsibility to myself and to my community, and what is the responsibility of the state towards us?
Five years on, the right’s Covid narrative has been turbo-charged into the mainstream | Laura Spinney
Before the next outbreak, we need a serious conversation about how to cope – but first, the more strident, misguided voices must pipe down, says author Laura Spinney

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

Incredible speech by Violet Affleck who warned about the ongoing dangers of COVID & Long Covid, & advocated for masks and clean air at the UN today!

Disney/ABC have a responsibility to refuse to participate in corruption.

Kimmel must be reinstated. If Disney/ABC agree to this extortion then perhaps creatives + workers should consider collective action to push back. Same w/buying park + cruise tickets if they bow.

What we are witnessing is an outright abuse of power.

This administration is attacking critics and using fear as a weapon to silence anyone who would speak out. Media corporations — from television networks to newspapers — are capitulating to these threats.

When you get a vaccine or a medical checkup, we expect the healthcare worker to wash their hands and wear gloves.

We should think the same about wearing masks in medical settings. Viruses can spread pre-symptomatically; masks are another effective infection control measure.

God knows I’ve been wrong about this before, but I’m thinking—hoping—in tandem with the horrors RFK Jr. is wreaking, that at least a few more people are perhaps beginning to consider that their government isn’t always honest with them about threats to their health. #COVID

I don’t know how to say this without sounding harsh, but I need you to hear it. COVID — or SARS-2 — is not “just another cold.” It doesn’t leave you the same. Every reinfection stacks damage: brain, heart, immune system.

Stopping vaccine development is another example of "eugenics is everywhere."

Expecting survival of the fittest when one gets infectious disease and cancer is eugenics.

We mask because no one else is lifting a finger to stop the spread of Covid.

We mask for ourselves, our loved ones and our communities.

We mask because we know public health is a team sport.

It’s not too late to start masking again, and I promise it’s not as hard as you think
