Can this please STOP HAPPENING?! please.
The open secret that Thomas King is not Indigenous at all is finally verified, and honestly it's a relief. Having him just confess this instead of going out kicking and screaming like so many before him causes a LOT less harm to Indigenous communities.

It still sucks though.

If you're looking for another way to divest from Amazon and instead support your local community, hi, nice to meet you 👋

When you buy audiobooks through us, a portion goes to your independent bookstore. It's an easy way to shop small all year long.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that a big piece of Mamdani’s campaign was simply “cities are cool and lots of people enjoy living in them” which in and of itself dismantles alot of rightwing talking points

Zohran Mamdani's victory speech is deadass one of the most inspiring political speeches I've ever heard. What an incredible politics of solidarity New York is showing us.

“Fascism” isn’t a slur for politics we don’t like. It’s a precise word with precise meaning. And in the face of what’s happening right now in America, it’s the most honest one we have.

I’ll lay it out as plainly as I can. 🧵

I know I’ve been posting a lot about this, but it’s telling of how this government looks at society that at the very moment Mark Carney can’t stop talking about nation-building projects, he’s throwing the biggest nationwide service-delivery network on the scrap heap because it doesn’t make money.

Free speech wasn’t under attack when students were being beaten abducted and censured under Biden? When people lose their jobs for criticizing Israel? Or when people are getting deported for speaking Spanish? This impacts one comedian and suddenly people care? Be so for real.

A Palestinian film about a little boy won an award and Israel cut off the funds immediately.
Meanwhile we are subjected to whiny articles about how unfair it is to boycott Israeli films, academics, artists.
This is about standing up to genocide.

The Jimmy Kimmel firing, Colbert's show, what's happening at WaPo, CBS... legacy journalism is slowly but surely coming under state control.

It is more important now than ever before that we support the independent journalists out there doing the work not beholden to a fascist's bidding.

what we’ve seen from the right is the most insane case of cancel culture i’ve ever witnessed. the left has never even done close to a fraction of a fraction of what they want to do now

The last 48 hours have shown why people have stopped relying on legacy journalism and have migrated to independent journalists in droves.

The benefit of legacy journalism is supposed to be “editors” and “factchecking” and they can’t even get that right in a rush to blame trans people.

Hmmm clearly the left has an extremist violence problem.
(Spoiler: the right is our extremist violence problem)

"Cancel culture" is alive and well on the American right I see. Never want to hear another whingeing word about it going forward.
I am having a hard time reconciling "Charlie Kirk was a fierce advocate of open dialogue and free expression" with "we must identify and persecute everyone who is insufficiently mournful"
After Charlie Kirk's death, teachers and professors nationwide fired or disciplined over social media posts
At least a dozen faculty and staff have faced fallout over insensitive comments online.

Canada's foreign affairs minister got back to me about top scholars' finding that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

It...wasn't great.

Meanwhile, Poilievre is out here calling Palestine the "Hamas state."

But where leaders fail, the people step up: the Global Sumud Flotilla is setting sail.

Book buyer rant: can someone PLEASE page HarperCollins (Voyager and William Morrow) and explain to them that a Deluxe Limited Edition should not be receiving multiple print runs before release date. It's super disappointing to buy a book on release day and for it not to be a "true first edition".

Israel destroyed a Palestinian seed bank today. This is such a specific kind of evil, targeting literal hope for the future. Attempting to further alienate Palestinians from their home and land. So much destroyed just for the sake of destroying. It's awful.

The thing about all these fucking statements now from world leaders calling for the food to be let in to Gaza: you have the ability to impose sanctions on Israel and every second you spend talking instead of imposing them is a collaborationist lie.
