They're grieving, but they're not grieving HIM. They're grieving the end of the illusion. The illusion of being untouchable by political violence. See, if the first time they talked about CK was to decry what happened to him, then they do, in fact, condone political violence. Just not against them.

The most painful political realization I have ever had was when I realized that the overwhelming majority of people on the left aren't prison abolitionists. In fact, they're huge fans of carcerality, capital punishment, etc. They just think that the wrong people are being imprisoned and killed.
