The Daily Wire reporting that the DOJ is looking for ways to strip trans people of gun ownership is quite bad.

It's definitely possible to overstate how bad it is. These sorts of trial balloons often go nowhere. Not At all clear DOJ has any ability to ban guns for anyone even if they want to.

Everyone is rushing to defend Graham Linehan as some martyr to free speech but don't actually state what he tweeted. He explicitly called for people to violently assault trans women in the bathroom.

In another instance, he cyberstalked a trans minor. He's legitimately a danger to trans people.

I'm a believer in nonviolent resistance for moral reasons, and I think it can be incredibly powerful when well-planned and sustained, but don't tell me violence doesn't work. The people successfully rolling back my rights were sending bomb threats to children's hospitals.

Using services based on “self ID” (the gender role in which they present) regardless of GRC is right there in the EHRC’s 2011 Code of Practice.
It’s in the EHRC’s own 2022 guidance.
The Labour Gov recognised this too a matter of months ago.

13.57 If a service provider provides single- or separate sex services for women and men, or provides services differently to women and men, they should treat transsexual people according to the gender role in which they present. However, the Act does permit the service provider to provide a different service or exclude a person from the service who is proposing to undergo, is undergoing or who has undergone gender reassignment. This will only be lawful where the exclusion is a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate. There are circumstances where a lawfully-established separate or single-sex service provider can prevent, limit or modify trans people’s access to the service. This is allowed under the Act. However, limiting or modifying access to, or excluding a trans person from, the separate or single-sex service of the gender in which they present might be unlawful if you cannot show such action is a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim. This applies whether the person has a Gender Recognition Certificate or not. You will need to balance the interests of trans people with those of other service users. Does the reason for limiting access or excluding trans people from your service outweigh any discriminatory effects of the treatment? (i.e. the impact on trans people of exclusion is outweighed by the impact on other users if they were included) If it doesn’t, it might be unlawful to exclude a trans person from the single sex service of the gender in which they present or limit their access to the service. If it does, it is likely to be lawful to exclude a trans person from the single sex service of the gender in which they present or modify or limit their access to the service. You should always balance and take account of the needs of different groups. Overall, 404 individual pieces of guidance which fit the response criteria outlined on the call for input gov.uk page were submitted. After reviewing these examples, we found that the majority seem to correctly interpret the Equality Act’s single-sex spaces provisions. In some cases, guidance reflected the organisation’s own policy to allow those with the ‘gender reassignment’ protected characteristic access to single-sex spaces that correspond with their self-identified gender, but did not incorrectly suggest that this is mandated by the Act. Had organisations suggested that their policy was mandated by the Act, however, this would have been a clear misinterpretation of the law.

INFORMATION SHEET FOR JOURNALISTS: Stop Using Transphobic Terms Like “Biological Male” STOP USING: “Biological male” / “Biologically male” “Biological female” / “Biologically female” “Biological man” / “Biological woman” “Genetic male/female” “Chromosomal sex” “Natal male/female” “Biological sex” (as a label for identity) “Biological reality” (as a political justification) "Trans-identifying male/female" "Male/Female bodied" These terms are not neutral. They are politicised, scientifically misleading, and function as transphobic slurs when used to override someone’s gender identity. They are widely rejected by the trans community, by medical professionals, and by human rights experts. What You Need to Know as a Journalist These Terms Are Politically Weaponised, Not Scientifically Accurate Leading experts and clinicians recently warned the UK Government that terms like “biological sex”, “biological man” and “biological woman” are used not in scientific contexts, but in political ones — specifically to exclude, misgender, and erase trans people. From the expert letter to the Minister for Women and Equalities: “The terms ‘biological woman’ and ‘biological man’, used by the EHRC and others, are often not used as scientific terms but political ones... sex is not a binary or immutable characteristic.” The notion of a fixed “biological sex” ignores real biological diversity. Sex characteristics (like chromosomes, hormones, and anatomy) do not always align and can change, including during gender-affirming medical transition. Best Practice: Use the Right Terms Use Instead: “Trans woman” / “Trans man” “Cisgender woman” / “Cisgender man” “Assigned male/female at birth (AMAB/AFAB)” “Intersex person” (where relevant) “Trans person” / “Non-binary person” These are the medically accurate, community-accepted, and respectful terms in use across clinical, academic, and human rights frameworks. What the Supreme Court Actually Said Yes, the Supreme Court ruling in For Women Scotland Ltd v Scottish Ministers [2025] UKSC 16 defined “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 as meaning “biological sex” for the narrow purpose of interpreting provisions relating to single-sex services and gender representation on boards, and within groups. BUT THIS DOES NOT MEAN: That trans people can be referred to in the press using terms like “biological male/female”. Journalists can ignore someone’s gender identity outside of these narrow legal contexts. This interpretation does not override the rest of the Equality Act, including protections from discrimination, harassment, and victimisation under: Section 26 (Harassment) Section 13 (Direct discrimination) Section 19 (Indirect discrimination) Referring to a trans woman as a “biological man” in your reporting may meet the threshold for unlawful harassment, particularly if it violates their dignity or creates an offensive environment. Media Harassment Is Not Protected Speech Deliberate misgendering or reducing a trans person to “biological sex” labels: Violates journalistic ethics on accuracy, fairness, and harm. It can amount to harassment under the Equality Act, depending on context. Can cause significant emotional, reputational, and professional harm. Distorts public understanding of science, medicine, and law. This Isn’t Just About Offence – It’s About Harm Using these terms: Frames trans people as deceptive or illegitimate. Feeds moral panic around toilets, changing rooms, and public life. Endangers trans people, especially women, by implying they are predators or intruders. Erodes public support for trans rights by normalising discriminatory narratives. Reminder: Your Duty as a Journalist Respect the lived experiences, names, and identities of the people you write about. Apply the same standards you would for any marginalised community. Ask yourself: Would you quote a racist term to describe a Black person, even if it appeared in a court ruling? Would you use a slur to refer to a Jewish or Muslim person, even if an “activist group” claimed it was accurate? Then don’t do it to trans people either.

1/ Today on the 1st day of pride month and the day before Emily’s birthday the FA ban on trans women in football starts.
This ban has broken my daughter in a way I didn’t think she could break. The pain and sorrow she felt at the end of her last game was soul destroying to witness.

In a dramatic incident captured on video, U.S. Department of Homeland Security police Wednesday handcuffed one of Rep. Jerry Nadler aides in the congressmember's Manhattan office, which is in the same federal office building as an immigration courthouse. In the video, which was shared with Gothamist and filmed by a person who was monitoring activity in immigration court, DHS officers entered Nadler’s district office and accused staff members of “harboring rioters.” A Nadler staffer is seen crying and being handcuffed. Another officer is at a door trying to enter a private area of the office while a staffer asks for a warrant. DHS later said in a statement that “one individual” — the woman seen being handcuffed — had blocked police from performing a security check they intended to do based on information there were protesters in the lawmaker’s office. Later that day, protesters gathered outside of the federal building, demonstrating against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
