Formerly a shopkeeper (lifestyle, but mostly women’s clothing & accessories) in #Margate UK for 14 yrs. and for a couple of those years, also #Whitstable. Retired 31/8/24 - now living in #Birchington.
Oh, and another thing, my favourite cheese: Roquefort.

In other news: neither Alison, nor myself are actually missing having the shop. .My Rosie does miss the attention she got from so many customers… Poppy… well Poppy probably only misses barking at any form of walking aid, other dogs and nothing much in particular…

I’ve been looking to see how late the Stagecoach buses from Canterbury this morning… and this…
It is somehow funnier that I am nearly certain this is a Magic/Stagecoach bus in the UK.

Things French workers know how to do well.
Shit’s about to get real 🇫🇷

Rozzas everywhere

Big manifestation planned by angry vine workers means all the city’s bins have been hidden

The streets are deserted

Riot vans, shields, tear gas all at the ready

We’re on our balcony (on the route) with popcorn

I’m wondering if something like this could also be true for the UK. Immigration and ‘small boat arrivals’ seems to be conflated here. The latter being something like 4% of the total, but it’s what gets all the attention. Is there a majority here who still want a ‘hostile environment?’
One thing I keep screaming from the rooftops: "The border" and "Immigration" ARE SEPARATE ISSUES. You can be (and most Americans are!) pro-immigration but also desirous of a well-regulated border. We want our immigration process to be welcoming, generous, and orderly.
Some Dems and pundits overread the significance of Trump's win. They looked at dissatisfaction with the border and discerned a seismic cultural reaction to immigration levels inside the country. The former was real. The latter is a mirage.

Fascinating that these far right are terrorists if UK says they are; same thugs rioting outside a refugee centre in West Dublin are ‘activists’ & ‘concerned locals’. They’re not linked, they’ll say. Unless of course you open Twitter & see them upload photos of themselves, together, at various riots!

It‘s a demonstrable fact that lowering taxes levied on the highest earners and largest companies, benefits only the wealthy. Money trickles inexorably upwards. If middle and lower earners have greater discretionary income they spend it to the benefit of the economy.
