As you begin budgeting for Black Friday, consider shopping locally as much as possible. Many small retailers (especially hobby shops, game stores, and comics shops) run *barely* in the black until the holidays, at which point they make all the profits that will keep them solvent next year.

Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

Ok everyone, I’m assigning you your resistance homework for the week.

Everyone ready?

Do something silly that makes you smile. I just waved at a dog that had its head out the car window because it made me happy. Don’t let the assholes take your joy.

I don’t want to be the guy bemoaning the earlier and earlier arrival of retail Christmas, but after seeing the first displays up again this week and remembering the last of them hanging on till Feb/March… I’m kinda wondering why they bother taking it down at all?

Word of the Day: ANTIMETABOLE - a rhetorical device when words are repeated in successive clauses, but swapped. For instance JFK's "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country", or Snoop Dogg's "With my mind on my money and my money on my mind."

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑

Hey authors! This is relevant to our interests.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

If you're attending FanExpo Canada in Toronto this weekend, please stop by and let Bell know that their AI photo booths are trash, especially at an event that's supposed to be celebrating & supporting artists.
Bell has said that how they are received at THIS SHOW will determine how they use their A I photo booths going forward, so if you want to let them know how unacceptable this is, please make sure Bell and FanExpo know.

I think people think that art taking a long time to learn means like a month or maybe a year and not an ever expanding process that progresses with you the entirety of your time drawing. You don't "finish" getting good at art because that's not the freaking point.
