I visited my son Jake today at the nursing home where he's been since mid-July. Next week he's to have surgery on his spine, again. Then maybe he'll relearn how to walk, again, and relearn how to use his hands. When he's not dealing with seizures. Or blindness.

An outdoor cat did this to him. 1/

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Katie Wilson, who is good, is currently 4,500 votes behind Bruce Harrell, who is evil.

There are 45,000 ballots outstanding. 10% of those ballots could change the fate of Seattle.

Check your ballot.
This race could very easily be decided by challenged ballots. Use this link to track your ballot, and remind your friends and family to do the same: info.kingcounty.gov/kcelections/...

Mercy Culture Church trains Christians to run for office in Texas - The Texas Tribune
At the core of the program is the idea that there is no separation between what happens within the church and what happens in the government.

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

AOC must primary Schumer. It's our only hope. If we make it that far.

Ms. Shelley was harsh, but she had her reasons. She wrote Frankenstein & created the genre of science fiction when she was 19 years old, one of her many accomplishments. So, pretty much a smart one & probably worth listening to. Much as it pains me to say it, her argument does have some merit.

Schumer must go. I know that changing leaders during wartime is a fraught business, but Lincoln stood for re-election in 1864, as did Roosevelt & Churchill in WW2. Jeffries is bad, but Schumer is worse. Not even clear that he's entirely on the side of Democrats. 100% not a wartime consigliere.
I know everyone is still holding out hope that Axios is wrong but there have been so many other reports from a variety of sources now.

Nothing is done yet, but it seems like the Dems are preparing to fold for peanuts.
Thune Plans Test Vote on Shutdown, Saying Deal Is Getting Closer
Senate Republican leader John Thune said a deal is “coming together” as he planned a test vote Sunday on a narrow spending package that would end the 40-day government shutdown.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Are we starting to see a permanent impact on the economy from the shutdown?

BESSENT: It's getting worse and worse. We had a fantastic economy under Trump the last 2 Qs, and now there are estimates that growth this Q could be cut by as much as half. We could end up with shortages.

I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.

It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Lots of hard, shitty lessons being learned from this presidency. And one of the many I hope you're learning is, white supremacy is incompatible with reality, and cannot exist without historical revisionism.

I love reading these "You're an Italian-American? I am too!" posts. So many shared cultural experiences! Jokes, accents, traditions! (Ditto for Jews, etc.) I'm Finno-Irish-Scottish American. I've known 6 others in this demographic: My sisters Maureen, Barbara & Muggs, & brothers Mike, Peter & Paul.
As a Long Island born Italian, I can say Moonstruck is as an excellent depiction of the better side of the people I grew up with, without the worst side of the people I grew up with. It’s extremely endearing and gets what made the people who are better side actually the better side.
