Overnight, Trump and Republicans in Congress shut down the federal government.

They shut it down because they’re determined to strip healthcare from millions of Americans, to enrich the billionaires they serve, to continue the assault on our rights.

We must fight back.

Bullets don't care if you are a Republican or Democrat. Reality is over 400,000,000 guns and too much hate. Political violence is happening to both parties. We need leaders to step up. Truly sorry for Charlie Kirk and his family. He was wrong. It is not worth it.

Hard to convince younger generations, but for decades, Republicans went on and on about how two of the worst things imaginable were (1) state intervention in the market and (2) DC using federal troops against US states; both so bad the people should be ready for armed rebellion in case it happens.

Tech oligarchs oppose the idea of any supposedly undeserving person getting financial help from the government in 2025. But they want you to believe they’ll give *everyone* free money in the future.

It doesn’t make any sense, but it’s the techno-utopian lie they will keep selling.

"This is part of the reality of Black life in this country: We must make a record of those forces that seek to erase us and erase our histories so that future generations know we did not simply accept it."
I debated writing this. It can feel tempting, upon encountering yet another instance of this administration’s racism, to let it be. How many ways can you say the same thing over and over again? And yet we have to write it down, if for nothing else, so those who come after us know we were against it.
Actually, Slavery Was Very Bad
The president’s latest criticism of museums is a thinly veiled attempt to erase Black history.

OUTRAGEOUS: Under Trump’s ICE, Maine police officer John Luke Evans, fully authorized to work in the U.S. was arrested and forced out of the country.

Federal agents knew he was legal. This isn’t about “illegal immigration.” This is about targeting anyone they want, no matter the law.

If you want to put back statues and memorials and names of Confederate traitors while tearing down museum exhibitions on slavery because they don't show the greatness of the nation... the nation whose history you're celebrating is whiteness. The kind of nationalist you are is a white nationalist.

The people who thought their power and position were endangered are still around and still fighting and in some cases still passing their bigotry to their children. We moved on but they didn’t.

Come on AP. He slashed $500 million in funding for mRNA technology and then strung a bunch of words that sound good if you know literally nothing about vaccines, but this statement is actual science fiction and reporting it without saying this isn’t how immunity works at all is frankly dangerous.

Hello, I'm a bestselling children's author in a film. I make wild demands of the publisher that flies me in for an emergency brainstorm on Christmas Eve for a book they want to have written, illustrated, edited, formatted, marketed, printed, and released within the next 3 months. I am Miles Finch.
Hello, I'm a paleontologist in a film*. I am 26 years old but somehow I have tenure at NYU. I spend 98% of my time at a coffee shop. The 2% at my job is in the undergrad classroom, and 0% studying fossils, writing grants or papers, or even thinking about fossils. Yes, I am Ross from Friends.
Hello, I’m an astrophysicist in a film. I wear a white lab coat so you can tell I’m a scientist. I look through telescopes with my bare eyeball & I study everything from solar system objects to black holes. All of my calculations are done on chalkboards. And my office is next door to the telescope.

Regarding using the hypocrisy of Republican arguments against them Elie nails it,“There is no “checkmate.” There is no moment where the scales fall from their eyes. There is no point at beating the Republicans at their own game, because when they are beaten they just change the rules.”
There's a terrible 5th Circuit opinion I'd like you all to see. Lots of people say we should "use conservative arguments against them," but you have to understand, FedSoc judges do not care about their own hypocrisy. They just write their way through it.

Immigrants generally commit fewer crimes than US citizens

They’re also extremely productive-and therefore helpful to the economy

So by attacking immigrants who had no criminal record Trump was directly harming America

Which leaves one question-why do it

One response seems fairly obvious

Racism
Trump had promised to focus on rounding up immigrants with criminal records during his 2024 election campaign. Government data shows that actual ICE arrests skew heavily towards immigrants without criminal convictions.

Ex-farm worker here.

We need to talk about this whole "But a living wage for farm workers would spike the cost of food!" thing.

Not true AT ALL.

Y'all don't understand how fast experienced farm workers are.

The average tomato picker pulls 650lbs per hour.

At $20/hr, that's $0.03/lb for labor.

Aha! There it is. I just want to make it clear-this is a tremendous scandal. A massive failure. Remember also that FEMA Region 6 (includes Texas) has NO REGIONAL ADMINISTRATOR!
Staff at FEMA haven't received any internal communications from the agency or department leadership since the deadly floods in Texas, which is unheard of in the wake of a major disaster.

Acting Administrator David Richardson is "nowhere to be found."
FEMA response to deadly Texas floods delayed & deficient with Noem in charge

THIS IS NOT FREEDOM.
Yet another holiday weekend of deadly gun violence in America. This is not inevitable—it’s a choice made by the inaction of our lawmakers and the greed of the gun industry. We should not be forced to accept this amount of suffering in exchange for unfettered access to guns.

this is important work I believe white Christians need to be doing in their faith spaces. right wing Christians are perfectly comfortable ruining your Sunday over abortion. left wing Christians need to start doing the same thing about voting for the torture and death of immigrants. call it by name.
We're going to need Nuremberg trials when this is over, yes, and to send a significant number of people currently in the federal government to prison. But we're going to need an unwavering commitment to ostracizing the supporters of it, as well. Never accept them again in polite society.
