There’s something about this particular style of briefing — seated, at the WH, next to a foreign dignitary — that turns his baseline crazy up that extra gear.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

I agree with this, and I finally realize it’s on me to curate a better follow list.

It took a while for normies to join this space, so my follows still skew towards the people I followed when I first joined: heavily online, constantly miserable, early adopter types (a group, alas, I’m a part of)
One thing that's been heavily proven to me is Bluesky is not all politics. The music, record, cd, movie, books, horror and lots more scenes are heavily alive and well here with almost zero negativity. Better engagement here than Facebook has been in years.

To lighten the mood, here’s a thread of my favorite TikToks.

It will be awe-inspiring to watch the world’s greatest practitioners of soulless grifting join forces over the next year.
Exclusive: FIFA will not pay a rental fee for using the Kennedy Center for the 2026 World Cup draw, disrupting the venue’s performance schedule.

The event, moved from Las Vegas to D.C., was influenced by Trump’s relationship with FIFA’s president.
FIFA will use Kennedy Center free of charge for World Cup event, contract says
The Kennedy Center booked the World Cup draw at President Donald Trump’s urging. It will occupy much of the campus and displace planned performances.

Astonishing how hard this administration is working to keep people hungry.
It's clear they are trying maximize public suffering, in hopes of getting people to blame Dems for that suffering. But it's transparently the White House working overtime to keep the suffering going!

Yikes. USDA sent threatening letter to states telling them that if they sent out EBT money —which many states did during the window when a lower court said SNAP funds had to be released—they have to take it back (?)
Trying to sort out what this means and if states even can claw back the funds

I made a “how do you do, fellow kids?” joke to someone in their mid 20s who, it turns out, was too young to have heard of that meme.

So “how do you do, fellow kids?” is now an example of “how do you do, fellow kids?”

I’m surprised ESPN hasn’t run a promo for their DTC app during the YouTube TV standoff.

I’d be willing to try it, though tbh it’s not really workable for sports freaks like me who want *all* the sports. I’d still be stuck paying for YouTube TV or a billion standalone apps to get everything else.

This all seems fair, though I think raising salaries is easier to sell for leadership positions that seem more hands-on (governors, mayors) as opposed to Senators/Reps who appear to do genuine, hands-on gov't work maybe 30-50 days a year.
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

refusing to say whether or not you voted for the Democratic candidate for mayor is such a damning indictment
Q: It's election day in NYC. Did you vote for Mamdani or Cuomo?

Schumer: "Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help NYC."

A perfect insight into the kind of kind of person that joins ICE. They're not in control of their own lives and don't take responsibility for their own actions. Sandwiches "explode" on them.
Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

David Lynch was trying to get us to recognize this for decades.
As a NYer, ”real” “small town” America now looks like a sexual freak zoo run by genital-obsessive xenophobes who make women into living dolls and shoot each other. Mamdani’s NYC (and mine) is a safe, wholesome place where neighbors help each other, do scavenger hunts, ride bikes, and birdwatch.
