The good news: Portland is opting into Oregon's optional 4-story single-stair code section.
The bad news: Portland's fire marshal has managed to insert a poison pill into what appeared to be a take-it-or-leave-it appendix text, likely making it unusable in most cases.

Portland’s new single-staircase rule faces big hurdles
The city now allows single-staircase buildings as tall as four stories, but a fire access rule may make most projects unbuildable, one designer warns.

Really cant understand how badly the Dems messaged this fold. The easy out was to say "we never expected Trump would illegally starve children and when SCOTUS stepped in to illegally help him we couldn't put kids at risk."

It is funny we are just returning to the level of Obamacare subsidies Obama thought was sufficient and most people will hate the GOP for how unaffordable that is.

One reason progressives are absolutely convinced there’s an acute cost of living crisis is advocacy-oriented material like this report, which invents a brand-new cost-of-living measure and then claims 52 percent of Americans fall under it.
But notably, it includes ZERO historic or trend data!

If Senate Dems were planning to cave they really should have done a much better job pegging it to SCOTUS stepping in to help Trump stop SNAP and blamed it entirely on SCOTUS being lawless and legitimate to save face.

Ultimately the GOP just really super strongly wants to make sure health care is unaffordable for many. They really want that more than anything. They wanted it so bad they were prepared to shutdown the government forever.

Senate Democrats think this is the appropriate response because they begin every conflict with the assumption they will lose, and then ask “How can we end this as quickly as possible while creating the appearance of having tried to win so the base isn’t mad?”
I truly don’t know how you look at the past week and THEN decide THIS is an appropriate — let alone the right — response.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Groceries are up about 30%, in fact. About the same as wages. People spend less of their income on groceries than they did five years ago.
Only about 33% of Americans rent, and of that, only a quarter are severely cost burdened (though we should build more rental housing to reduce that number).

It is basically impossible to not conclude that young voters were radically misinformed about the actual stakes/policies at play in 2024.
It is also true this age group got lots of their information from Tiktok (partially owned by a big Trump donor and trying to stop the ban)

People might not like it but Newsom is so far out ahead in the 2028 Dem primary because he is fighting Trump aggressively (Prop 50) and that is going to be overwhelmingly the top desire of primary voters.
Newsom: "It's not about rule of law anymore. It's rule of Don. He's choosing which court decisions he agrees with. He's quite literally running an extortion racket. He's doing it with some of the most powerful corporate leaders. What does everything have in common? Tariffs. They're about leverage"

Trump could not in fact bring prices down on day one and the media really don't do enough to point out what an insane disqualifying lie that was.
Ipsos finds Trump’s approval rating is decreasing almost entirely because of anti-incumbent economic anxiety. Approval rating among people who say the economy is the # 1 issue is -24pts since Jan. It’s stable for people who index on all other issues www.ipsos.com/en-us/lesson...
