The first Superman Sunday newspaper strip was published on November 5, 1939.

Gasoline Alley by Frank King from November 4, 1923.
Walt and Skeezix are out for a drive when Walt notes how many gas stations are popping up. Each time they pass one, Skeezix suggests stopping, but Walt is confident they will pass more. Eventually they run out of gas, and Walt is frustrated that when the really need it, there is no station around. A man stops to help and lets Walt try to siphon some gas out of his tank. But Walt sucks too hard and ends up swallowing some gasoline. Walt gets mad when the man laughs and the man gets mad when he sees that Walt left the siphon going and all of his gas leaked out onto the street. In the last panel, Walt and Skeezix are walking with a bucket to find a gas station and Walt is hoping the man will sell them a gallon of the gas they are getting when they return.
