It's a bank holiday here in Ireland for one of our patron Saints, Saint Brigid. It's also the older Irish festival of Imbolg, marking the start of spring.

Pictured is Brigid's story from Girl comic 1960, written by Chad Varah and drawn by Gerry Haylock.

If my friends here could give my Dan Dare kickstarter posts re-post when you see them I would be extremely grateful.

There a great article about our campaign in this month's Judge Dredd Megazine - shops now!

Newszines are always a great source of information, and below is not what I was looking for but interesting anyway!
Comic Buyers Guide September 1983 has one of the earliest earlier mentions of Eagles Dredd in the US. The dates are confusing, as I think issue one was available in October 1983.

Three years after Sergeant Trelawny joined the Grenadier Guards the scarlet tunic of peacetime was packed away and for seven more years the guardsman's uniform was kaki battledress.

I forgot I had this book, a companion to the Judge Dredd Role Playing Game from Games Workshop.
I can't remember if I ever actually played it, I much preferred the Dredd board game. Wonderful cover by
Chris Achilléos.

Does anyone have any information on this mag?
I can't find anything on it, but it is a redrawn version of a Mick Mc Mahon cover, one that we featured in our latest Comic Archive - The Editors Cut.
Copies of the Editors Cut are left in Hibernia's shop, here- www.Hiberniacomics.com

'Lucky Charm'- the lesser known stablemate of DC Thomson's 'Red Dagger' series. It ran from 1979 and 1984, collecting comics from DCT's girls titles. Pictured are the first four- issue 1 cover is by Dudley Wynne (I think) and the rest by Ian Kennedy

Work is continuing on our King Cobra collection, it has some really amazing Ron Smith artwork. Pictured is one of his covers, really looking forward to seeing the reaction to this collection.

One that passed me by a bit- DC Thomsons 'Classic from the Comics', I pick them up now whenever I see them.
Most of the contents were from before my time reading DCT humour comics so they are fresh and the anthology format suits the one page stories- a book of the same story can get repetitive

From 2000 AD Prog 484, a teaser for Bad Company which would start in Prog 500. The first three books of Bad Company are easily some of the best comics 2000 AD has published, Milligan, Ewins and McCarthy at the top of their game.

A cracking page from Fleetways Sonic the Comic, by Lew Stringer and Mick McMahon. That opening panel is very familiar, with the character striking a very 'Dredd' pose!

50 years ago this ad appeared in Battle and War libraries, heralding the arrival of one of the most controversial comics.

Originally to be called Action '76, and then every year to Action '77, '78 etc. Great to see Action special returning this year.

Total Toy Books latest release 'Star Wars Toys- The Palitoy Saga' has just landed, beautiful books, especially the slipcase edition.
My contribution is a look at the influence of Star Wars and 2000 AD on each other and further afield in British comics. If you have backed this, you are in for a treat

I have no idea where I got this,
I'm not a gamer but I do remember playing it on a friend's amstrad way back. Looking forward to the film, Rogue Trooper was one of my favourites in 2000 AD, it really had an incredible roster of artists.

Happy New Year!
Pictured is the New Year issue of Eagle and Tiger from 1986, 40 years ago! Art by the great, and underrated, Carlos Cruz.

New year cover to Eagle 1967.
I really like the 60's Eagle, Dare past his best maybe, but the rest of the contents are great. Worth checking out.

St Stephens day is my favourite day of the year, the manic Christmas week has passed, the leftovers are great and a little bit of time to look over comics!
'Hey Diddle Diddle', a nursery title from 1972 has lots of artwork by Jose Ortiz. Pictured is one of the pages by Ortiz.

From 1936, the Christmas cover to Micky Mouse weekly, a comic I have never actually seen. Apologies for the poor picture, it's taken from Denis Gifford's excellent book of Christmas covers, well worth looking out for.

2000 AD annual 1985 is IMO the best annual ever, a titanic line up of talent. McMahon , Wagner, Smith, Mills, Moore Dillon, and pictured, what an introduction, an O'Neill inside front page, and a full colour Belardinelli Saline(for the day that's in it) If you have it, dig it out!

Another Way Out collects 3 new comics by Carol Swain. The landscapes are wreathed with ghosts, and the spaces between words spill over with unsaid secrets. Elusive and intriguing, these stories are never quite what you expect, but always a truth you have known all along.

Lovely Christmas cover to Rover and Wizard from 1964.
Wizard launched in 1922 as a story paper, was canceled in 1963 merging with Rover. It stayed on Rovers masthead until 1969, and was then revived as a great comic in 1970. Its largely forgotten now in favour of titles like Bullet and Warlord.
