This is nuts.

Ballot measure stopped insurance companies in California from modelling fire risk.

They could use historical data. Because they could not accurately price risk they ceased offer cover to the market.

bizarre for a country so committed to free markets

EMERGENCY PLEASE HELP🚨- guys the NHS is in a state of absolute emergency. We’re running a massive campaign calling for change to safeguard lives and we need your help. If every person who saw this could donate £1, we’d hit our goal 🤞. Can we do this?

This is a really useful resource for anyone who still needs convincing that immigration is not the reason they can't get a training number.

An IMG applying to CT1 in my specialty has a 1 in 45 chance of receiving an offer, compared to roughly 1 in 3 for UK grads.

Two things: First, the level of obvious disinformation is clearly intentional and not remotely interested in the facts or concern for the victims.

Second, the sheer volume of tweeting - this is his main occupation now.

As Alan Wolfe once wrote of the American example: “Conservatives cannot govern well for the same reason that vegetarians cannot prepare a world-class boeuf bourguignon: If you believe that what you are called upon to do is wrong, you are not likely to do it very well.”

This is, as you would expect, excellent. A brilliant and important contribution to the debate on social media regulation. Two footnotes.

Interesting article on #moreorless - right wing talking point that 80% asylum seekers in Sweden have returned to their country of origin for holiday is misleading. NOT recent immigrants - could have entered up to 70 years ago - Eastern Europe, chile, balkans, etc where conflict has ended

Latest update on the NHS this winter - flu has just about peaked, but December was another terrible month for the NHS emergency services.

This has consequences, with thousands of people dying each year due to delays in access to emergency care.

Hopefully the worst is over for the NHS this winter, but thousands of people are dying each year due to ambulance and A&E delays.
