I’m an Australia software engineer currently living in the US. My language of choice is Ruby. I’m also a tabletop role playing game fan.

Most of my posts are about TTRPGs, with a smattering of coding-related posts. Refer down-thread for a TTRPG starter pack and a coupe of TTRPS feeds I maintain.

Okay, I can't let this one go. I live in Ireland, not the UK, but the use of this image by a supposedly socialist party is so stupid and offensive, I'm going to get stuck in.

Let me explain to you why any experienced illustrator/designer could have stopped you making so many miserable mistakes. 1/

A mostly harmless language shift that needs to be stopped immediately: Saying “I resonate with this” when you mean “This resonates with me.” I am asking everyone, as a personal favor to me, to cut it out.

Goodness me, I stayed up late reading and it’s already Partially Muscled Skeleton Screaming by the Perimeter Fence Day. Hope you’ve all been good this year!

I’d Rather Be a Mouse Than an Elf — Prismatic Wasteland
I love pretending to be an elf just as much as the next guy, but it pales in comparison to the joys of pretending to be a mouse with a sewing needle sword at my side.

I read The Double Helix as an undergraduate. I was a science major at a women’s college taking molecular biology. Our professor taught us that Watson & Crick screwed Rosalind Franklin over.

So I read the book to learn more. I’ll never forget how reading this passage made me feel.

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.

Dear Netatmo, This explains why you can’t show me a weather forecast in your app, but it doesn’t explain why you thought it was a good idea to require your servers to be up in order to show me the status of my devices on my home network.

Introducing Bowie Days:

I will listen to one David Bowie song a day, then write a short post about it!

I’ll do this until I run out of Bowie songs, (there are more than 400!) or until I don't feel like it anymore.

Join me on a tour through a great musical career!

🏺 Since Titan has an active atmosphere and weather patterns that deposit material over its annual (long, c. 29 Earth yrs) seasons, if we ever get back there to look at the archaeology of this historic lander site, we may well have to excavate it

It is the farthest place from Earth where we have so far landed.

This reeks of Apple trying to buy their way out of a hole they’ve been digging for themselves since they launched Siri. It was a me-too service then, and they’ve done less than nothing since then to make it genuinely useful. They are well past just slapping some LLM polish on the turd that is Siri.
