I believe there is something to be thankful every day. Not once a year. Every dinner we say what we're thankful for. EXCEPT Thanksgiving. I REFUSE to be thankful on this day. On a day where innocent people lost their life for this land we will never truly own.

He had advised against venturing far into the thick trees without them, and Maedlynn readily obeyed. Coming always with Darren made it their preferred place, a sanctuary where the grass welcomed them and the view of the stars invited them to sit and consider the astral demesne.

Nothing too exciting here today, just a description of a shop in Nine Fires. I love the vibes of this city so much. I definitely went overboard in this chapter, but I don't regret it. One day, I plan to write a whole book that takes place in Nine Fires
He ventured toward the Blue District. Although the roads of Nine Fires were labyrinthine, the fires atop the nine towers served as beacons to tell Garlic which direction he had to go. The tower with the blue flame was adjacent to the one with the magenta flame, so it would not be a long walk. Garlic’s flickering forked tongue smelled the potion shops long before he saw their blue lanterns hanging beside beaded curtain entrances. The fires inside those lanterns burned candles made of wax infused with Courage. Most customers would only assume the cucumber-like scent was there to smell nice; Garlic knew it was borage meant to entice people into spending more money. His suspicions were confirmed when he saw those blue lanterns and realized the blue oilpaper was printed with images of borage flowers.

I looked at the wound. It actually wasn’t that bad, a clean shot that had skimmed the fatty part of the thigh. Just a graze, really. It was bleeding as much as you’d expect but probably hadn’t done too much real damage. If he’d been able to run here on it, it would probably be fine, assuming he didn’t lose too much more blood. “Just keep pressure on it. It doesn’t look that serious.” “Well, it hurts like hell,” he complained. “It is a gunshot wound. Of course it hurts.” He didn’t seem to have anything to say to that, but he was starting to look a little grey. Hopefully, that was the adrenaline crash and not the blood loss. Keeping him alert and talking would be best. “Ok, I need you to tell me the rest. Everything you were going to tell Cooper. And who would have killed him for it.” “It’s kind of a long story.” “I’m not going anywhere. Maybe you could start by telling me who you are?” “Oh, I’m so sorry.” He blushed slightly, which was a good sign on the blood loss front. “Simon Vale.”

And from chapter one, scene one, the reader sees Helena speak for the first time in the novel…

(She was hiding from a campus tour as it approached cuz she is anti-social and didn’t want to have to have a human interaction, oops.)
Helena scoffed a little, before she could catch herself. When the tour guide paused, she cringed inwardly but stepped out from behind the statue. The students, all looking slightly startled, turned to her expectantly. There was an awkward pause. She was aware of how she looked, suddenly appearing out of nowhere, dressed all in black leather and spiked studs with a sullen expression on her face, but couldn’t conjure up a smile for these strangers. “Actually,” she mumbled, “these aren’t gargoyles.” She wasn’t sure anyone heard her, but the tour guide narrowed his eyes in irritation. She rushed on to explain herself. “Technically, it would have to have water running through it to be a gargoyle. These would be grotesques.” The group stared blankly at her. “That,” she added, pointing up at a figure jutting out from the roofline, its tortured jaws dropped open in a silent howl, “is a gargoyle.” The young man turned back to the group of indifferent freshmen, half rolling his eyes. “Yeah, but like I was saying…” he continued
