Critical part of the President's new $100,000 charge for H1-B visas: The Administration can also offer a $100,000 discount to any person, company, or industry that it wants. Replacing rules with arbitrary discretion.

Want visas? You know who to call and who to flatter.

I’m sorry but I think folks can often be too harsh with Sarah. 95 Ds voted YES bc of leadership, why single her out so often?

She got elected statewide in Delaware. Her path is challenging and this time is terrifying. I think the disagreements w/ her can be less personal. I care about her safety.

look, it is comforting to think that your political opponents are, at the end of the day, just people like you who really want us all to live together as Americans.

it's just very obviously not *true* in MAGA's case, as you can tell through, well, what they say and do.

/3 We can also call out who has encouraged and normalized political violence and made it government policy. We can note the irony of it in many cases. But celebrating it — yelling “hooray” — is like celebrating going to war. People will die and it won’t be fun.

I’d go one further and say the gradual moral collapse of our society and our politics is a direct product of the growing social norm where you cannot impute bad faith or immoral motive on people and institutions who clearly exhibit both.
i'm often accused of being uncivil for my willingness to go at people's character but it is not my fault i live in an age where some of our most prominent commentators clearly believe in nothing

Americans should find the whole concept of "summer recess" for Congress insulting to begin with.
It only gets worse when one party cravenly weaponizes it to protect an individual they're supposed to be holding accountable.

Housing policy is climate policy. If California was serious about mitigating climate change, we would be building tons of new energy-efficient apartments and condos in temperate coastal areas instead of auto-dependent single family sprawl in the desert.
The high in the East Bay today is 70°. The fact that we don't have Manhattan-level density is a climate resilience planning failure.

LLMs are the natural endpoint of this. Friction between reality and narrative is reduced to zero. Want to hear why something is true? They'll happily tell you, often convincingly. Want to believe your darkest stereotypes? It'll literally draw you a picture that confirms them all.

“Inclusionary zoning” is one of those policies that sounds great at first but then when you look at the actual impact it ends up just being a massive tax on new apartments that exempts single family homes, accomplishing the exact opposite of the intended effect

A YIMBY Theory of Power
Pro-housing advocates offer an analysis of class relations that is more sophisticated and has more explanatory power than the one held by many critics of the “abundance agenda.”

A whistleblower's disclosure details how DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data
A whistleblower tells Congress and NPR that DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data and hid its tracks. "None of that ... information should ever leave the agency," said a former NLRB official.

weird, what could explain this
Adolf Hitler's “Mein Kampf” is still on U.S. Naval Academy shelves. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and “Memorializing the Holocaust” are not.

An order by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office led to a purge of books that are critical of racism — but preserved volumes defending white power.
