Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, a council voted against a previously agreed plan to house asylum seekers in an empty office, after a private company had stoked fears in the community. The company, Bergman Assets, offers accommodation for asylum seekers, at 23 times the cost.

It’s not new, and it’s certainly not a fad. People have lived this experience for as long as people have existed; we’re just finally talking about it openly. You don’t have to fully understand it right away, most learning takes time, but we can always start from a place of respect. That’s how decent folks handle things they’re still getting used to.”

Students have lived their lives as learners under a cloud of suspicion that they are cheaters and don't want to do the "boring and hard" work. The majority of students do not cheat (61% of the students in this "experiment" didn't use AI), so this presumption is unfair. I'd argue it's toxic. 4/8

Haben die meisten ja auch, aber Hoeres schon lange nicht mehr und es ist ihm nicht mal peinlich. Er scheint nicht mal mehr den Anspruch zu haben, in der Fachwelt angesehen zu sein. Und da wären wir bei Problemen unseres Wissenschaftssystems, das so etwas nicht mehr sanktioniert, sobald man Prof ist.

On one of the dirty hippy US politics podcasts in 2017, after the torchlit Nazi rally where one of the marchers killed a woman.
And that's what these guys are, these guys that marched in Charlottesville, these are the people who are aware of the unspoken premise of this sort of zombie neoliberalism that we're living in, which is that we're coming to a point where there's gonna be ecological catastrophe, and that it's gonna require either massive redistribution of the ill-gotten gains of the first world, or genocide. And these are the first people who have basically said, "Well if that's the choice, then I choose genocide", ', and they're getting everyone else ready, intellectually and emotionally, for why that's gonna be okay when it happens, why they're not really people. When we're putting all this money into more fucking walls and drones and bombs and guns to keep them away, so that we can watch them die with clear consciences, it's because we've been loaded with the ideology that these guys are now starting to express publicly. On the other side of them, we have people who are saying in full fucking voice, "No, we have the resources to save everybody, to give everybody a decent and worthwhile existence, and that is what we want." And that is the fucking real difference between these two, and you can tell that to the next asshole who tells you that they're actually two sides of the same coin."
