I’ve been listening to this argument for at least 40 years now and somehow no one ever gets it. Then it’s all “we need more roads/parking. Let’s add some service-free bedroom communities only accessible by freeway to round things off.” Wash, rinse, repeat. #yqrcc

It's hard to explain to people outside this fight that Texas is currently trying to ban kids from using public libraries... but they are; it's passed out of committee, and it's going to a floor vote.

🚨If you know ANYONE in Texas it's time for them to call their reps and demand NO ON HB3225🚨
Bad. Despite the voucher debate, the Tx State Affairs committee met and voted FOR HB3225. This bill would require public libraries to have age restrictions and cordone off parts of the library as inaccessible to teens. @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social @penamerica.bsky.social @everylibrary.bsky.social

Collective is the key term here. Those at privileged institutions can not rely on their/our institutions to survive compliance with unethical mandates. Our unions, our institutions, our scholarly/professional associations must act with courage. Those institutions are composed largely of us.
To my fellow academics: the far-right is coming for us. All of us. And neither tenure nor seniority will save you, no matter what you tell yourself. Organization and solidarity are our only hope. Absent a truly collective defense we're all fucked.
