Congratulations!
My books have been blessed with a number of awards. This one--an ALA Featured Title for Reluctant Readers--for #WhoOwnstheMoon is one of the most meaningful. We nonfiction writers work hard to make big concepts and technical material not only clear to kids but also appealing. #kidlit #MegaKidlitFeed

This. “I find it ironic that we spend so much time and energy debating how to deny r children access to certain books while ignoring the much greater threat to their wellbeing, which is that children increasingly are NOT READING books.”

York County Library (SC) Bans “Gender Identity” Books for Minors, Strips Citizens of First Amendment Rights.

I don't know why this York story doesn't get the national attention that others have. It needs it. This board just destroyed the public library. Again.

Y'all. I created this "Library Wrapped" template to help #librarians share their mid-year data BEFORE the end of the year when many budget/staffing decisions are already made. Access the template here: www.librarygirl.net/post/your-li...

I hope y'all find this resource useful!

This outcome causes immediate and tangible harm to readers in Llano, throughout Texas, and across the 5th Circuit, who rely on their public libraries as spaces for free expression and access to information.

Supreme Court’s Denial of Review in Little v. Llano is a Misguided Step Toward Government Speech Through Inaction
The Supreme Court’s decision not to take up Little v. Llano County is a profound disappointment for the plaintiffs who bravely advocated for their community's right to access books in the public…

We complete agree! They are fierce!
Really bummed about SCOTUS not taking Little v. Llano County. But goddamn, Leila and her fellow plaintiffs have been tireless advocates for the freedom to read and for freedom of access in libraries and we cannot lose sight of how hard this battle has been. How glad I am to live in a world w/them.

This means in Llano, books will wrongly remain off the shelf. But as Americans, we still believe in the values of the First Amendment and that future court rulings in many other circuit courts will assert that belief.
For more background on what is at stake for library users’ first amendment rights, @texaspublicradio.bsky.social had a good piece. The activist ruling from the Fifth Circuit will now stand in Tx, LA and MS and potentially influence other courts. www.tpr.org/education/20...

The Supreme Court has declined to take up Little V. Llano. What does this mean? The court has now left a confusing patchwork of laws where library users in different states have different first amendment rights. That’s not fair nor comprehensible.

Please take ten minutes to email a thank you to your local public or school librarian and copy the superintendent or mayor. Let them know libraries matter to you!

In Texas, many censorship challenges are brewing. Please keep showing up for your public and school libraries! We need community in Victoria, Salado, Hays, New Braunfels, Abilene, Seguin and more! Contact us or @txfreedomread.bsky.social to help!

How did this many book challenges get filed in Hays? How many parents are actually behind this?

We suspect, like most places, it’s just two or three individuals removing hundreds of books from the thousands of families in the district and costing the district so many hours of work.
In Texas, we see the same books being reviewed, re-reviewed and challenged as four years ago. This list in Hays CISD for example! sites.google.com/g.hayscisd.n...
