Librarian @lupodmore.bsky.social explained why the complex logisitics of SB13 matter to #SAExpress.

SB13 adds three layers to the book purchasing process, slowing down arrival of books for months. Students deserve access to academic materials they need. @lupodmore.bsky.social explains why.

We saw it too!

We are proud to stand for the #FReadom to read alongside library advocates across the country this Banned Books Week. Our statement reminds us of the value books play in telling the true story of our lives. @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social @penamerica.bsky.social @txfreedomread.bsky.social

Texas SB13(Library Advisory committee bill) clearly differentiates library materials addressed in the bill as different from classroom materials. Districts that overcomply are limiting student learning.

If you want to implement Texas SB13, then read what the bill says(and doesn't say). Districts who overcomply are taking resources away from our kids.

There also seems to be confusion about classroom libraries and Tx bills. Nothing in #SB13 requires you to remove a whole classroom library. You do have to remove a classroom library item if it is banned at your school board but just for the grade level campus where it was removed.

Be sure to stay informed by reading Tx SB13 library bill itself. Here’s what it says to distinguish library materials and instructional materials - and yes there is overlap. @txfreedomread.bsky.social #SB13

The dissent in the Little v. Llano public library case concludes with a quote from President Dwight Eisenhower, who aptly reminded us that reading affords us the opportunity to defend freedom. #FreedomtoRead

We know we are on the right side of history. We believe in libraries and the good librarians do. Unfailingly. Unflinchingly. Forever.

We spent Memorial Day with @TFN at a Capitol read in. Today it was SB13 and tomorrow HB3225 which attacks public libraries. Keep calling your Senators about 3225. It’s up for a vote tomorrow.
May 27, 2025 at 3:32 AM
Are we saying that families cannot direct their own child's reading and have personal conversations with them about what they read? Do you think it's the state's job to parent for you? Tell your Senators no to HB3225.
May 23, 2025 at 2:03 AM
Parents-shouldn’t you have the right to determine what your child reads? Contact the Tx Senate State Affairs committee and say no to HB3225! @txfreedomread.bsky.social

We couldn’t agree more. Say no to HB3225.

The majority of Americans oppose book banning! So we went to the Texas Capitol today for a press conference /rally in defense of Texas libraries! Two bills, SB13 and HB3225, violate our teen’s first amendment rights. @equalitytexas.bsky.social @aclutx.bsky.social @txfreedomread.bsky.social txlege

We are highly concerned about this passage in SB12, under consideration today in the House Public Ed committee, which basically is a "Don't Say Gay" K-12 provision and may impact library collections. You can leave a comment today during testimony here: comments.house.texas.gov/home?c=c400
May 13, 2025 at 3:15 PM
Tx HB3225 may go to the Senate soon. Your city council probably doesn’t even know about the $10,000 fine to the library. Or that the library will have to I.D. Everyone under 18. What can you do? Inform your city council members ASAP!
May 10, 2025 at 9:07 PM
Evidently they don’t realize that to get a library card at the library of Congress you actually have to be 16 or over to access the collection.
