If we try to change people's beliefs and behaviors, isn't that part of a culture war?

"Does “manly” mean just one thing, and should I still chase it? It’s hard to figure out what it means to be strong without being “toxic,” confident but not arrogant, assertive but not overbearing. Are we meant to shrink so others can rise? Is it always zero-sum? It’s confusing."

Brilliant essay.

why is *every* newspaper/programme running with the headline "tariffs are paused" when they haven't been.

What's happened is that every country (except China) gets a flat rate of 10% for 90 days.

When our leaders pretend to resolve conflict but really want to squash it, we get situations like this.
A Georgetown University researcher, who was studying and teaching on a student visa, has been detained by federal immigration authorities amid Trump's crackdown on student activists whom the government accuses of opposing American foreign policy, according to court papers.

One of the main things I want to change about the culture of conflict is this idea that there are only two options, here described as confront vs cower.

We can also resolve.
Here's some questions journalists might try to answer:

1) What are elected Dems saying (off record, background, whatever) that they are hearing from their consultants, polls, and focus groups?

2) What are public polls and focus groups indicating on the "confront vs. cower" question?

If you’re in the US, you can watch PBS for free using the app. There’s a series of documentaries called American Experience that’s really good—each is about a different event in history.

Go watch The one about the Gilded Age in season 30.

It feels so familiar, it’s genuinely eerie.

Instead of complaining about Trump (or other politicians), what about trying to find the people today who behave as Lincoln did—treating others as friends and not enemies—and lifting these people up as leaders?

That's the essence behind my new focus on Leading Hearts Fund.

If so, please reach out to me, I'd love to chat with you to learn more about what motivates you to help inform my work with Leading Hearts Fund.

When the richest man in the world thinks he's a victim and people believe him.
I cannot stress this enough: the people now in charge of the US government are deeply invested in a conspiracy theory where they’re weak victims of radical leftists that took over everything—that includes you, academia, as absurd as it may be—and therefore entitled to the most drastic measures.
The New Right's Theory of Power is Insane
It is simply not true that radical leftists took over all major institutions and use them to crush the right, and mainstream figures should stop being afraid to say so

There's so much more strength in an open heart than a closed one. A closed heart can be so easily manipulated.
I’ve been contemplating the difficult inner work of keeping an open heart in a time of so much anger and grief and then I saw this quote:

“The heart that breaks right open can hold the whole universe.” — Joanna Macy

"Owning the libs" seems to be a weird desire for dominance. A belief that someone currently has less strength than the other side.

In other words, someone who actually feels strong and dominant doesn't have the desire to dominate, because they already do.

As we seem to become more and more conflict avoidant around the world, i appreciate this reminder that Dr. King had the courage to face issues and demand that we do as well.

Thank you for the reminder.
I pray this helps some of you today. We have a duty to Dr. King whose life was taken because he dared demand that this country face itself, to demonstrate that his work & sacrifice was not in vain. Let’s do it together. Please share. And subscribe.
