Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion, according to our analysis, which found the sepsis rate for women hospitalized as they miscarried in the 2nd trimester shot up by more than 50%.

Detroit gets its first female mayor. Virginia gets its first female governor. NJ gets its first female Dem in the governor's office. NYC gets its first Muslim mayor.

Seems like a pretty resounding statement of support for diversity and inclusion.

Darlings, a reminder for when everything feels bad:

--Reach out.
--Move toward joy.
--Drink water.
--Take your meds.
--Allow yourself to feel your feelings.
--A 3 minute dance party in the kitchen helps.
--If you have a pet, hug them. (Unless it's, like, a fish.)
--When in doubt, make art.

Please remember, as SNAP benefits are withheld and children and seniors start to go hungry, that the Trump administration could have preserved food aid but is using the pain and suffering of Americans as a strategy to force Dems to help them throw people off of health care.
One food bank in Virginia saw a 65% increase in visitors since last year, more than at the height of the pandemic.

“We thought it would come back down and it hasn’t,” the food bank’s chief philanthropy officer said. “It keeps growing.”

Trump Canceled 94 Million Pounds of Food Aid. Here’s What Never Arrived.
ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached food banks because of the administration’s cut...

If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

Once a democracy starts to erode, it can be difficult to reverse the trend. What does it take for democracies to bounce back from periods of autocratic rule?

This is EXCELLENT.

1) this is spot-on analysis of the problem & a great immediate 1st thing a city can do to improve outcome.

2) as a 2 min clip? He's giving history, hope & change. Speaking to women, to Jewish & Black NYers, saying "abortion." & also naming eugenics in feminism. 100/10 no notes.

The Heritage Foundation is the true domestic terrorist.

Trans people are people. They are real. They deserve to be recognized and to live peacefully.

This is not a false alarm. Protect the trans folks in your community. It is a necessity.
Heritage Foundation has released an absolutely insane policy proposal to label all trans people as domestic terrorists. It uses completely made up instances of terrorism and made up statistics but facts don't matter to them.

They want us all eradicated.

Democracy, more than anything is a practice. I always think that the Civil Rights Movement succeeded because from the Civil War black Americans built institutions: universities, fraternities and sororities, churches, that engaged them in democratic practice.
generally speaking, and with the glaring exception of november 2024, the more directly democratic an institution has been, the better it has checked Trump (eg grand and petit juries); the more elite and insular, the less effective (the Senate, the Supreme Court, big business)

It's funny to think that my preference for urban living in areas with dense, mixed-used, walkable neighborhoods, multi-family housing, small businesses, and diversity probably stems from Sesame Street. Like an early education in Jane Jacob's urbanist theories.
