Last month, Anas al-Sharif sounded the alarm on starvation in Gaza. Israel accused him of terrorism.

"We warned this felt like a precursor to justify assassination," said Jodie Ginsberg of the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Today he was killed in a targeted strike on a tent housing reporters.

I was too young to comprehend the larger geopolitical context in which it unfolded, but some of the most glaring memories from my childhood were images of the famine in Somalia.

It's heartbreaking that the hell unfolding in Sudan now is barely being mentioned by the media.

When you see innocent people being sent to a hell hole concentration camp in El Salvador, you are horrified.

But the thing that most people in the USA still don't want to reckon with, is that *more than half* of the white people in the USA see the same exact images, *and like it*.

They love it.

This professor studies dictatorships. He helped convince Harvard to stand up to Trump
Harvard professor Steve Levitsky has spent decades studying democracies and how they fail. He's now raising alarm bells over what he sees as a slide toward autocracy under President Trump.

Every college and university should do this to remind Americans that attacks on these institutions are actually attacks on all of us.
Harvard redid its whole homepage to push back against the administration’s demands. I mean, this is just a website but I think it’s kind of a great PR move: www.harvard.edu

Nothing more inspiring than finishing the last sentence of a paragraph of academic writing and saying out loud to yourself, "Or some shit. I have no idea what I'm talking about."

Also, loving that I'm inspired to work to avoid reading the news!

The new mantra: mistranslate the manuals.
I had a relative compelled into service to the enemy. He mistranslated all the manuals for captured equipment so that The Thing Don't Work.

Mistranslate the manuals, whatever that means for you.
a key take away from reading a lot of history for me:

the people who survive hard times and eventually brutally humiliate their seemingly invincible enemies are not the people whose first response to adversity is “oh well, guess I’ll die”
