The fact that the American Internet is exposed to the world to prod and poke at in hopes of some loose change falling out has been such an utter disaster for democracy.
I think it is very unlikely that most of these are Russian influence agents, and considerably more likely that they are people from developing economies who have cottoned on to ways to make relatively large amounts of money for them by being paid-per-view by X.
This week we learned that many of the most active Twitter accounts are foreigners, most likely Russian influence agents, operating in the guise of Red State Americans.

Carving up the world, like they said they would.
Reuters has confirmed that President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and his special envoy Steve Witkoff held a private meeting in Miami with a sanctioned Kremlin proxy to help shape the new "peace plan" for Ukraine. www.reuters.com/world/europe...

The thing about Trump saying it’s fine for Mamdani to call him a fascist is that he genuinely thinks all of this is kayfabe, just as he could insult Rubio or Cruz but still work with them. It’s not possible for him to imagine other people being sincere about anything.

Beyond everything else it's disheartening how everything is so appropriatable.

I wish the public would pay more attention to what ICE is doing to these folks - our gov. is signaling what it will next do to us.

Just thinking abt that time Serena Williams nearly died in childbirth and the data that women's pain and black women's especially is routinely dismissed by doctors, and wondering is that the kind of medicine we're "aggressively pro?" Or is knowing that data "woke" or is it pro science?
unfortunately it won’t be “woke” if it is “aggressively pro science and medicine.” because such sentiments run smack dab into armies of educated people with paens to “alternative ways of knowing” and racist beliefs that non-white people don’t appreciate science and medicine
I'm all for woke 2 as long as we agree woo-woo is out, I want aggressively pro-science and medicine thanks

This is a story about how America’s world-leading cancer and dementia research system was destroyed by frauds and naifs who broke the law.

There must be consequences.
Some incredible details in this piece
*one DOGE faction was planning the future of the US government at a venture capital firm
*illegally communicating on Signal to avoid transparency laws was deeply embedded into organizational culture to be taken for granted

Most people don't really understand this, but the biggest problem with the media is that it does not exist anymore.

In 21 states, local newspapers lack a dedicated D.C. reporter covering Congress
Between 2009 and 2014, the number of Washington-based reporters for local newspapers accredited by the Senate to cover Congress declined by 11%.

2) always very funny when these people realize the extent to which their billionaire patrons could not possibly give less of a shit about them

Medical sexism is behind so much of MAHA’s appeal. Doctors don’t know shit about women’s bodies or diseases & anti-medical, anti-vax, woo woo wellness grifters are foaming at the mouth to eat up everyone being harmed by Covid who just found out there’s no help for us within the medical system
Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence
Influencers made millions pushing ‘wild’ births – now the Free Birth Society is linked to baby deaths around the world

Not that I trust Rubio though

very funny to read the responses here as someone who works in the data space in tech. tech people by and large have no theory of what data is or isn't, and mostly think of it as "objective recordings of the truth." it's rather horrifying! i hate it! (the responses here are great)
A question for scientists (construed as broadly as you like) of BlueSky: What makes something data?

(Question inspired by a talk I listened to this morning, and of course I have thoughts, but I wanted to throw this out there first.)

Incredible the degree to which vaccine hesitancy has become about political identity – and shift happened in a relatively short amount of time.

The theory of grift and power is just fascism.
Someone is going to have the write the thing about how “vibe” has become a substitute for meaningful theory in a world where the theory is so clear — grift and power — but we collectively refuse if because it isn’t sophisticated enough to generate make work for empiricists.
