Blaming vaccines is easier because it feels like it’s something controllable. Covid is airborne and this is a much more concerning reality. There is no need to panic, we have the science to prevent. Problems can only be fixed however, when we are able to talk about them.

#TalkAboutCovid
What we are seeing now is just the tip of the iceberg. The focus on blaming the vaccines instead of the virus will only continue to make things worse. Condemning a whole generation that has not even born yet.

New important publication in #LongCovid & #MECFS!

After a viral infection, cells lining our blood vessels can become damaged and enter senescence, similar to accelerated aging. These cells are not healthy, but they also don’t disappear. Instead, they send out constant stress & inflammatory signals.

Human astrocytes are among my favorite things to photograph under the microscope! I feel like I’m looking at stars in the sky!
Can you identify the blood vessel in the middle of the image?

World Health Network was featured in The Guardian as experts urge the WHO to update global guidance: surgical masks are inadequate, and respirators should be standard protection in healthcare settings.

Evidence-based public health matters.

If you're wondering how the medical community can ignore a disease that causes all of the damage laid out in the thread below, take note of the fact that continuing medical education processes are so outdated and ineffectual that many can't even recognize #longCOVID when they get it themselves.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has made the bold decision to forego federal funding in order to maintain the integrity of their evidence-based work on maternal health, preventive care, and more.

Just published on @pnas.org how #COVID can lead to loss of dopamine neurons. In mice, it can be mitigated with proper treatment, but in humans we don't know yet. Below you see the reduction of TH (rate-limiting enzyme to produce dopamine) in the brain. This is #LongCovid and also viral Parkinsonism.

Antivaxxers like RFK Jr love to cherry pick policies from countries like Denmark so they can falsely justify reducing vaccines in the US, while ignoring context.

If they really wanted to learn effective health policy from Denmark, they would be pushing for universal single-payer healthcare.

About 16% of children whose mothers tested positive for #COVID during pregnancy were diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental condition by age 3 years, compared with about 10% of those whose mothers tested negative."

Here's a really easy New Year's Resolution:
If you're sick with something contagious, you will stay home if your circumstances allow.

If you can't stay home, you will mask around others until there is no possibility you are contagious.

By making these choices, you will literally save lives.

While in the U.S. this topic became politicized, Germany just committed US$582 million to post-infectious disease research. With #COVID and now with the #BirdFlu risk, we are witnessing a major leadership shift, with the U.S. losing ground to Europe, and Germany now leading the way.
