"Of the 18 124 live births, 861 infants were exposed to maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection.

About 16% of children whose mothers tested positive for #COVID during pregnancy were diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental condition by age 3 years, compared with about 10% of those whose mothers tested negative."

Starting the year with a manuscript accepted as first author! 😎 In this study, we show that E. Coli infection during pregnancy can induce loss of neurons in the fetal brain that is not rescued by antibiotic treatment. More evidence of the impact pathogens can have on the 🧠! Coming out soon! #Neuro

After 9 years in the U.S and getting ready to move to Europe, I needed a good break to spend some time with my family in Brazil. Home is where my heart is. Rio, I love you 🇧🇷♥️

Here's a really easy New Year's Resolution:
If you're sick with something contagious, you will stay home if your circumstances allow.

If you can't stay home, you will mask around others until there is no possibility you are contagious.

By making these choices, you will literally save lives.

The COVID-19 iceberg.

These numbers are just the tip of the iceberg. Reported cases only show a fraction of what’s really out there, but they still give us some sense of what’s going on.

While in the U.S. this topic became politicized, Germany just committed US$582 million to post-infectious disease research. With #COVID and now with the #BirdFlu risk, we are witnessing a major leadership shift, with the U.S. losing ground to Europe, and Germany now leading the way.

What are we going to do about the millions of people who are not recovering nor dying after an acute infection event? Will we continue to pretend they don't exist?

Super important topic: Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is not dangerous! Not only is it important to remove the warning labels, but also to encourage more women to take the therapies for menopause. Women are 2x more likely to develop #Alzheimer, and HRT can protect the brain.
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is not dangerous. Timing and formulation are critical components of benefit vs. harm. I’m glad to see the FDA warnings removed from HRT.

Thanks @bloomberg.com for covering this important topic: www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/...

Merci for a great time, France! Really inspired to see one of the largest #LongCovid communities in Europe. A lot of promising research, especially on biomarker development, with more than 1,000 samples from Long Covid patients across France. Good stuff is coming! My travel buddy approved 😜

COVID isn’t acting like the viruses most of us grew up with, and treating it like “just a cold” is putting people at real risk. David Brasure breaks down why SARS-CoV-2 is fundamentally different, how it causes long-term damage, and what we can do to protect ourselves.

Very important study and more evidence that #NeuroCovid can contribute to neurodegeneration and cognitive impairment. When they say 'it's all in your head', they might be trying to be dismissive, but are accidentally being very realistic.
