I think culture is another huge part of the theme here, in fact. How ideology ALWAYS drives what people are meant to believe is the "science" of their time and place. bsky.app/profile/jenk...
3,000+ biologists were dismissed, imprisoned, or executed in the Soviet campaign to suppress scientific opponents. Soviet genetics research was effectively destroyed. Research and teaching in the fields of neurophysiology, cell biology, and many other biological disciplines were harmed or banned.

Yeah, but ego can be completely inseparable from what is just the culture's worldview. I am reminded of how when anthropologists 1st began interviewing Native Americans in the 1800s they only talked to the men, & only got half the history because they didn't conceive of women being history bearers.

The whole roof!

It's hard to really wrap one's hands around exactly what the subject / theme is here. It's something about how medicine rejects science, and how both are conducted through the lens of human bias. And the relationship between that and rejection of epistemology in general. Like what is that?

Surely not, Dr. Semmelweis! A gentleman doctor's hands are clean!

Who could forget such CDC hits as retracting that COVID is airborne or publishing indoor ventilation guidance the day after the end of the public health emergency order so that they would serve no purpose at all. Anyway, AIDS activist would like a word.

And I forget the specific number, but doctors need to read or hear something multiple times for it to have the same impact as another doctor saying it once. Because haha medicine is delivered by bias machines.

Oh, and not to woke you out or anything but it takes an average of SEVENTEEN YEARS for scientific evidence to wind up in you're doctor's medical practice.

But isn't it pretty to think so.

The thing about "woke" and about "woo" and about "science" and about "medicine" is that the delivery mechanism for ALL of them is HUMANS. Whose brains are wired for biases. There's no conflict here.

We've BARELY just begun to figure it that schizophrenia can actually be an autoimmune disorder. That EBV triggers Lupus and Multiple Sclerosis.

Telling most DOCTORS the SCIENCE that viruses cause neurological disorders is "alternative" TO-DAY.

Until the 1990s babies were routinely operated on w/out anesthesia because the medical establishment believed babies dont feel pain. Homosexuality was a mental disorder in the DSM until 1987. Hysteria until 1980. But surely *modern* medicine isn't failing any vulnerable group anymore now.

Everything is very simple and reductive if you want it to be.
