1/2 🧵🧵Absolutely. And you’re right to feel that knot in your gut…it’s everywhere right now.

But this is exactly the moment…when discipline matters.

There’s a LONG year of political trench-warfare ahead…and the GOP’s only real hope…is a fractured Democratic side. Don’t give them the win.

Apart from everything else, the logic of it all just astounds me.

Your party gets a clean sweep of the elections a week ago, and your response is “let’s go cave to the people who our entire party hates so much they broke turnout records six days ago?”

What kind of thinking is THAT?

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.

Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.

This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

@murray.senate.gov Actuall, it does end. The Senate Dems just gave up any leverage they had. There will be hell to pay at the midterm vote.
I voted NO. As long as there is still any time left to reverse the MAGA health care hike, I believe we should do everything we can to force Republicans to the negotiating table.

The fight for health care does not end tonight.

This is the biggest win for Democrats (maybe the only one) in this deal, imho.
if the Senate comes up with a shut down deal, the house will have to come back to vote to pass it.

Speaker Johnson will have to swear in Adelita Grijalva.

She will be the 218th signature on a discharge petition for the Epstein files.

The congress show will move into the next episode

Here they are, the Senators that can sleep at night with their Cadillac healthcare plan while 42 million Americans are denied AFFORDABLE healthcare.

Fetterman we expect, but @kaine.senate.gov we supported him for VP!
He’s the most disappointing of them all!

@schumer.senate.gov @democrats.senate.gov You are so fucking stupid I can't even stand it. I'm over it. You just moved this GenX grandma to be a permanent member of a progressive party. You are too right leaning for me.
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

Republicans were overwhelmingly getting blamed for the shutdown.
There was no reason for the Democrats to cave to Trump on healthcare, except for the fact that they are wholly owned and operated by the health insurance lobby.

I'm just speculating here, but I think the popular backlash against establishment dems is going to be FIERCE.

This latest betrayal came at the heels of a wildly successful election, against a grossly unpopular president. The Dems teased us for weeks, pretending to stand firm.

And they succumbed.
