One of my neighbors has been putting up these fish facts posters. All kinds of different fish, marine, freshwater, deep, shallow, all kinds. This is a good one. “Stg this real fish” took me out. Good work, neighbor.

Very excellent snag from my walk this morning.
Shot taken directly up the trunk of a large Douglas Fir snag. The fissured bark is decorated with lichens and there's snow in the fissures. About 40 feet up the trunk is broken off. The light is bluish, it isn't long after dawn.

And for #ArtAdventCalendar day 2, some fishing lures 😅 Variations on this design have trended on social media for a while. I used creme polishes for the bases, some with gradients, and topped them all with a sheer holographic magnetic polish. Then I added details using more creme polishes.

If you ever see a mantis, spider, or other predatory bug with prey (like this mantis with a bee), look closer and you may spot tiny jackal flies, aka freeloader flies (family Milichiidae), gleaning food while carefully avoiding becoming part of the meal themselves. (Two are visible here). #Bugsky 🐙🌿

From my house in the suburbs. There is a lot of light pollution here and can actually see the reds with naked eye. Saw better last year in October, but had to drive 35-40 min out to the country.

Curious and friendly, handled safe as houses, large, fuzzy spider, just under an inch (22 mm) long, with a gray body, patterned with white spots and stripes. She has very large, forward-facing eyes that provide excellent vision, and her small, leg-like mouthparts (chelicerae) are covered in dense, soft, white hairs, like much the rest of her. Her fangs appear irridescent purple, green and blue.
