The DoD is allowed to transfer this money per statute apparently (though this is outside of my area). The CR in March upped it to 8 billion.

If you want something positive, I'd say that the current DHS strategy of using excessive force has been extremely counterproductive. Rather than actually detaining people, they're now spending significant time and resources dealing with hostile crowds wherever they go.

I hate to do this to the X-47B since i love it so much, but the UCLASS program (which was set to operationalize the X-47B) was planned to cost $3.7-6B for development and fielding of 6-24 aircraft. That's $154M-250M per aircraft at the cheapest to $600M to $1B at the highest.

In the movie Patlabor 2 the 第1高射群 (1st Air Defence Missile Group) based at JASDF Iruma is mentioned. It was a real unit under the Central Air Defense Force until disbanded in 2023. They had just transitioned to PATRIOT when the film released in 1993. It is now the Central Air Defence Missile Group.
