The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

![COP30: Fossil-fuel roadmap
Formulating a “roadmap” for the transition away from fossil-fuels was cited as a key issue for many nations this year; and it proved to be a major battleground. It was reported that around 86 countries backed the call for a fossil-fuel roadmap, however others saw it as a “red line”. This opposing group also numbered around 80 countries, including petrostates, such as Saudi Arabia and Russia.
On Friday morning, the second draft “mutirão” text was released, with no reference to a fossil-fuel roadmap.
A group of at least 29 countries, including Colombia, Germany, Mexico and the UK, sent a letter to the presidency saying they could not “support an outcome that does not include a roadmap [on fossil fuels]”, according to the Guardian.
Negotiations continued through Friday night. The BBC reported French Environment Minister Monique Barbut as saying the deal was being blocked by “oil-producing countries — Russia, India, Saudi Arabia”.

At #COP30 Arab delegates, together with India, opposed references to the IPCC and to specific findings from the WMO. This was part of a “consistent attempt to weaken the reference of the IPCC as the provider of the best available science,” according to Bangladesh delegates.
