If you're not sure why we need Indigenous Veterans Day as a stand alone day - dig through the old newspaper archives and search for "Indian Veterans". Almost every single story is like these ones, discrimination on top of bureaucratic hell. 1

What the Alberta government just did should worry all Canadians.

When they legislated striking teachers back to work, they went a step further:

They used the notwithstanding clause.

This is part of a worrying trend.

@emmettmacfarlane.com helped me break it down:

One thing I've discovered (but am not writing about) is that in the 4 years since the GPR findings at Kamloops of 215 potential unmarked graves, Canada has almost certainly filled 215 more (200-240) with Indigenous children in foster care.

Three things to do to support Wikipedia:

1. Dump Google. Make DuckDuckGo with AI turned off your default search.

2. When the information you want is not in Wikipedia and you find it elsewhere leave a comment on an article talk page pointing to it.

3. If you have the means, donate time or money.

to this i would add a good amount of self-loathing stemming from a belief that liberal political views are somehow “inauthentic” or an affectation of “elites”
I agree with whoever said a rather under-appreciated dynamic is the extent to which Professional Politics Opinion Havers flat out just find the left interpersonally irritating in a way they do not find the right so, and I think a lot of the talk of a vibe shift was wish-casting their irritants away.

Still nothing from major Canadian English-language media (that I’ve seen).

I feel like this is really odd?

Like I’m almost starting to worry it’s…personal from newsroom decisionmakers?

I hope it’s not because that would be very upsetting lol
Surreal to see this in CNN. What a wild week.

I feel so awful for everyone on this site.

I’ve dealt with this on a smaller scale before, which means I take a lot of safety precautions in my daily life.

But most of those listed are private citizens just thrown to the wolves.

I’m so worried.

This story is a fun case study in "how do you get stories?"

Step 1: Notice your kid (whose school has many low-income and Indigenous kids) gets school supply after the school covering that in recent years. Also the school's 10 Free Books program mysteriously didn't happen last June.
SCOOP: The BC government has quietly cut a $20 million fund that schools used to waive fees for vulnerable children, pay for school supplies. Last year, an NDP MLA called the fund 'transformative' and the education minister said parents could 'count on the program's help'

we don't have the right to housing. its an idea that hasn't been realized, a right that the federal government has the authority, resources and mandate to fulfill – if we demand it
