My friend, who is smarter than I am, has suggested that I add a page to my website for people who are interested in commissioning me.

One time someone wanted to hire me for an engagement shoot in a boxing ring, where the wife-to-be and the groom's ex-girlfriend would beat the living dog shit out of each other in a pair of themed costumes while the groom referreed. Now, look, I know what you're thinking: it sounds like these two women were great friends, and this sounds like a fun idea for a photoshoot. Something to commemorate the unconventional relationship between these three people. It turned out that they didn't even know each other. It felt like I was being hired as an accessory to something. If anybody asks about it, I didn't tell you this story. If the cops come to your door you keep your mouth shut, you hear me? Don't talk to the fucking cops. This isn't even about me any more. This is just advice." They can't come into your place without a warrant. If they don't have a good reason, tell 'em to kick rocks.

The wood of the small ship creaked around him; he could hear the gentle splashing of the waves. He hoped, briefly, that it had just been a nightmare, but then he saw it: a small puddle in the corner of the room. He darted towards it and pushed up the trick floorboard he’d rigged before setting sail, pushing his hand into the small cavity below. It was empty. 1923CE, somewhere in Mayfair Nell Bartlett had decided to cut her hair. She sat at her dressing table, gazing at her reflection, conducting a careful survey. Two lips, indifferent red, and so forth. Quite a serviceable face, if we’re honest, and perfectly suitable to its purpose. Or the purpose it had had until recently, but we’ll get to that. Straight black brows, cool blue eyes, with a slight droop to them, and hair falling to her waist that could most accurately be described as ordinary brown. Nell had never been dissatisfied with her appearance, but she’d woken up with a sharp yearning for change. Something to suit her new circumstances.
