1°C of global warming does NOT mean that heatwaves 'just' get hotter by 1°C.

Over large parts of the UK, global warming means that heatwaves are 3-4°C warmer, with worse consequences for people and ecosystems.

If you use AI to create your art, your story, your whatever, I immediately know you don’t care about making things — you only care about selling them.

Well this is a bit depressing.
It’s getting harder and harder to make a living and it worries me.

Definitely not by doing a victory lap around a ping pong table after an all-you-can-drink holiday brunch. Nope. Turns out you can find crutches in a beach resort if you look hard enough.
What's the stupidest way you've hurt yourself?

Oh I'm so glad you asked! I knocked myself out with a frozen bag of omelettes.

I am going to incorporate the potato test into all my future online interactions. Say potato dammit!
this is such an interesting time to be alive. we concreted the internet as our second equal and primary reality but it's full of ghosts now

we try to talk to them and they pass right through

it's a haunted world of dead things who look real but don't really see us

Day 4 of great quotes because its more interesting than posting what my kids had for breakfast (toast and jam x2).

Experience: I fought off a polar bear with a saucepan
I pulled back the tent flap and there it was, an arm’s length away. So I reached for the closest weapon to hand – my mother’s old porridge-encrusted pot

Portugal is taking online disinformation and fake news seriously. As part of a broader attempt to encourage media literacy, it’s offering 15-18 year olds a free digital subscription to a range of respected newspapers and magazines as well as online upstarts that don’t spread lies. (Monocle)

Discussing the use of AI at work:

Me: Ha, yeah imagine if i used AI to respond to emails.

Colleague: James, LLMs sound upbeat and chatty, not snarky and irritated. Bit of a giveaway.

I'm choosing to be flattered. I think.

Day 2 of posting quotes i love because its more interesting than telling the world what my kids had for breakfast (cereal, one with no milk. Dry as dust 🤷).

And teaches you things about yourself you didnt know, in my experience. That you hate gardening, for example.
I go to the gym 3/4 times a week, I consider myself to be in quite good shape. Recently moved to a house with a garden for the first time. Gardening makes you use muscles you did not realise you had.

Copyright law is clear. If you want to use a creator's original, copyright work for any purpose, you need to get their permission and agree payment.
Copyright law does not need revising. It needs enforcing.

Today UK authors are protesting against Meta for stealing our work to train their AI model. Authors earn an average of £7000 per year, we are not rich, and yet a trillion dollar company decided it didn’t want to license our work fairly as it was “too expensive”

Theft is not a valid alternative.
