What I want to say about Alice is this: we have not decided as a society that we want people like her to live as human beings. Currently, the regime under which she lived & died is closing off the elements that made her extraordinary life possible. Her work is literally being erased.
She was extraordinary, and extraordinarily generous. Alice Wong: I am so grateful to have been alive in her lifetime. She was one of our species' best. She deserved better. My her legacy be for a blessing.

Musk sacked 80% of staff when he bought Twitter

Bezos is sacking 14,000 people to replace with AI (*allegedly*)

Gates is cutting 4.1% of jobs (9,100) to replace with AI (*allegedly*)

What's that about billionaires creating jobs (*allegedly*)?

NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:
Millionaire Tax That Inspired Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in Massachusetts
A millionaire levy in Massachusetts that New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani holds up as a model for taxing the rich has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing...

How Massachusetts am I? Just ate soft serve in the car in the Market Basket parking lot. It's 39 degrees out. You know you can hear the accent this information is conveyed in.

Cambridge election error cause still unclear; recount possible - Cambridge Day
It remains uncertain how Eugenia Schraa Huh was mistakenly announced as one of the candidates elected to School Committee.

Days like this I think about how we have our local elections on a Saturday in April presumably because our officials only wanted townies to vote.

Dammit I hate how I shitpost about my effed up local government, & then feel obliged to do the historical research to find out why really. Don’t wanna.🙍

Less well-known than the Oxford comma is the Scott cæsura, a pause so short that the art community was roiled over whether it’s “rock and roll porn”, or it’s “rock and roll unt also porn unt also a motorbike”. In this essay I will

Damn, Bluesky doesn’t have a cut tag, does it? Because I got a damn good photo of a banded garden spider but she’s a big girl and I respect phobias.

my photo roll is roughly 60% cats, 20% bad pics of birds, 20% moss & lichen, and 10% bugs I haven’t yet posted on iNat. So when I searched for “birds” and it found only a few I wasn’t sure if I should blame my photography skulls or the iphone image classifier.

But maybe I should blame evolution.

Back in 2000, scientists put a lamprey eel brain in a jar full of saline, plugged it into a light sensor, and put it on a skateboard. The lamprey eel brain in a jar would drive the skateboard toward the light.

This is disinformation. The quotes are decontextualized references to a work visa program that is entirely separate from the concentration camp. It's being shared by a lot of accounts. Avoid them.

I'm probably never going to post or repost. I recognize this makes me look like a fake account. There's not much I can do about that.
