Saddam Hussein taught me—and a generation of crooks, thugs and warlords since him have reinforced the lesson—that whatever consequences may arise from doing so, eventually tyrants simply need to be killed.
Trump, the one person on Earth who both thinks the Iraq War wasn't about oil and wishes it had been, becoming the hero of the "antiwar" "movement" proves what a deeply unserious bunch of cretins they are.
We're never going to live down the accusations that we just invade countries to steal their oil

They could’ve simply had the Battleships and Carries ready to strike when the Japanese launched their aircraft at Pearl and had minimal protection. Striking a massive blow to them would’ve also obviously stirred patriotism and a call to action.

Their best “evidence” was US carriers weren’t there, but ironically the importance of carries was still widely debated until Pearl proved how powerful they could be.

It’s also always been completely nonsensical if you have any understanding of what happened. Japan attacked the Philippines & Wake Island at the same time, while sending a force towards Alaska. THEY knew that no matter what, US would enter the war that day. Pearl Harbor or not.

I heard this nonsense in college (1991) it’s been a leftist fucknut canard before Deng Xiaoping died.
I'd made a joke asking why did FDR let Pearl Harbor happen, but it is in fact a commonly held conviction on the horseshoe that he really did know it was coming and refuse to stop it so he'd have a casus belli, even after declassified documents in 2008 conclusively disproved this conspiracy theory.

The world would be a better place today if Donald Trump had been swiftly hospitalized for making fun of the disabled guy at that rally. And, later, Barbara Bush and Heidi Cruz.

Sometimes you can tell a bubble purely from vibes. It's all anyone can talk about. Companies in completely unrelated fields announce it's their new focus. And the articles start to appear arguing that no, no, this time really IS different.

We even see this here and now! In our own country! Comfortable people in rich suburbs are screaming at ICE agents because the line in their head has been crossed! There's no way for the administration to justify what it's doing to the average person and it's incapable of even trying.

The questions are: "How much can the average person convince themselves is justified?" and "How much can the average person ignore?" and a horribly unjust court system salted with lynchings to ensure it gets the "right" answer is easier to ignore than just rounding people up.

I didnt realize that CA pulled the trigger mechanism out of Prop 50, which means itll go forward even if the Texas maps stay struck down. Absolutely hilarious. Republicans have on one to blame for this but themselves.

80s: Japan is the future
90s, 00s: Japan in dying country typified by stagnant incomes, xenophobia and toxic, sexless nerd culture
Now: oh, that WAS the future
the actual suicide of the West will be combining a rapidly aging population with hostility to migrants. however we must give credit to East Asia, especially Japan, for pioneering this model.

The 1930s and 1940s featured no shortage of outrageously prejudiced (yes, even by the standards of their day) politicians, academics and media figures who were nevertheless shocked and disgusted by the sheer scale and intensity of Nazi barbarism when it reached full speed (pun not intended.)
One of the real big difficulties here is that social media has embraced "Republicans were always like this" and "Republicans are all like this" and are thus struggling within the assumption that 40-45% of politically engaged Americans are Nazis.
I fucking hate the way social media has embraced the “win every election forever can’t be the answer” straw man. Yes, we need structural change. Yes, it’s hard. Yes, it will continue to be hard and require work. Every time I see this it feels like people lusting for an easy forever answer.

Salacious Crumb being the name of a Star Wars character feels so wrong. By all rights, it should be a Harry Potter character name.

Repeal the natural-born citizenship clause.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

If I wanted to learn linguistics, I'd study with Steven Pinker. If I wanted to practice law, I'd learn from Alan Dershowitz. So it should be obvious that I, wanting to have sex with females several decades younger than me, would learn from the great Jeffrey Epstein.

Could you do the same for CA and overhaul the regulations and restrictions making such an initiative impracticable at the moment? Asking for a friend.

Okay, this still came out way too huge to navigate with any speed at ~80 posts long, so if I nest them *again* into groups of 25, it should finally be possible to get around with some speed.
Well, this thread got to be absolutely enormous and a pain to navigate, so I'm going to bookmark the relevant posts in groups of 5 so it'll be less cumbersome to scroll through.
So I happened across a treasure trove of old images, videos, memes and other junk on my OneDrive earlier, and since I've nothing better to do, I'll share my highlights from the collection of more than 1200 files from 2016–21.
