The AI machine is extraordinary for the sheer scope of crimes, evil, long term damage across a whole spectrum of things. It’s almost perfectly bad as its structured

It’s like so much we have. So much actual promise and just wholly perverted by fully devious, corrupt nihilistic vicious capitalism
Everyone knows data centers use a ton of water.

What hardly anyone knows: they can poison the water that remains.

And in eastern Oregon, Amazon is doing exactly that.
AI’s water problem is worse than we thought

People do not realize just how warped and disturbed the incentives are in Congress. And also how very simple attitude adjustments can dramatically change its effectiveness.

If you're ever wondered why journalists seem so out of touch most of the time it's because in order to establish yourself you need to either come from money, marry into money, or be OK with abject poverty and daily financial panic

That third thing is unsustainable long-term

@daniellemoodie.bsky.social - you're one of our (my wife and I) favorites. And I love the show you do with Jared Yates Sexton

You said today what i've been chicken little-ing about for months. Not that I'm so smart, I just started reading @edzitron.com about a year ago and it was all clear then.
They didn’t create an AI revolution. They created a too big to fail machine that we’re all going to pay for with our money, assets, already shredded basic citizen’s services in every way, give vultures victims to feed on and make fortunes. Oh and replace crucial human jobs with dangerous broken shit
"But when the team looked at the employees’ actual work output, they found that the developers had completed tasks 20% slower when using AI than when working without it. Researchers were stunned. “No one expected that outcome. We didn’t even really consider a slowdown as a possibility.”

But most things that actually used to be convenient, easy and/or fun to do online don't work, are a drag, cause problems, & are stupid time sucks
