Can any fellow authors recommend a good place to submit a short story (less than 3,000 words) set in the 1930s and which pays tribute to Leslie Charteris’s Saint stories?

Thanks!

Turns out this was all much ado about nothing and Google isn’t using your Gmail to train AI and if wanna turn all that stuff back on you can get your spam filters back
Looks like the article has been updated to suggest maybe they misread the policy.

I see people complaining that this also disabled their spam filters, though I still see new messages showing up in spam so it's still working fine for me after disabling things.

Did you know that Gmail can use your emails and attachments for its smart features? Here's how to check your settings.

Is it just me or do other Long Covid suffers read headlines like this one and think:

“No shit Sherlock! Welcome to the party. We’ve been telling you this for yearsssss.”

Followed immediately by gratitude for scientists investigating Long Covid to someday lead to treatments.

DONT FALL FOR MTG’S BULLSHIT SHE IS STILL A VIOLENT ANTISEMITE WHO BLAMES JEWS FOR EVERYTHING WRONG IN THE WORLD A FULLY ENDORSES GREAT REPLACEMENT THEORY
Also, she fully believes a cabal of worldwide Jewish pedophiles control the government. She just thinks Trump has become compromised by them. Or possibly was secretly compromised the entire time.

BREAKING:

Sen. Elissa Slotkin says police responded to her home tonight in response to a bomb threat. Slotkin wasn't at home at the time.

This is two days after Trump said Slotkin and other Democrats committed "seditious conspiracy, punishable by death."

I have an idea for a comic book series.

A mysterious figure approaches aspiring chefs, given them a bunch of chicken and other ingredients, as well as an address for the people they're going to cook it for.

I call it 100 PULLETS.

Additional Tip:

Gmail is being a pissy crybaby and will dump all your promotions and social emails into your inbox, I ended up with 24,000 of them.

Before switching off the setting, go in and clean out your social and promotions tabs because those will go away once you turn off smart features.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Behind this important reversal is a member of the Coast Guard who saw what was happening and had the courage to leak it to the press. That person deserves serious praise.

It was going to be called “I Shpy.”

Voter registration groups (and even election officials) often are outside naturalization ceremonies to welcome new citizens
Citizenship ceremonies are one of the most joyous celebrations of America that you can find. 100% patriotism vibes from people who believe in the American dream. So no surprise that these ghouls would cancel them.

I always knew it existed, but it’s distressing to see people begging for the equivalent of foot bindings for their minds and hearts, and using LLMs as the excuse.

Imagine not realizing how much great writing has been birthed from the irreconcilable need to tell someone or something to eat shit.
Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.

As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.

I warned that private equity taking over Walgreens would be bad for workers.

This is the private equity playbook: they hollow out businesses, cheat their workers, and drive them into the ground.

Red Lobster, Toys "R" Us, and Joann Fabrics. Who’s next?
Report: Walgreens cuts hourly workers’ pay for 6 major holidays
The hourly employees will only be paid if they work on those holidays.

What scenes are the hardest and easiest for you to write?

Hardest: a lengthy scene of a character by themselves without anyone to play off of, or lengthy descriptions. Also, writing dialogue for kids.

Easiest: dialogue, battle scenes, banter.
What scenes are the hardest and easiest for you to write?

Hardest for me: Drawn out battle scenes. Takes me forever to write because I'm trying to keep the action going.

Easiest: Dialogue. I trained on Gilmore Girls, Tolkien and Buffy lmao. Dialogue is my jam.
