My dad turns 80 this week. Many memories were shared of our family ice cream (frozen custard) recipe that claims to go back over 100 years. But it changes every generation or so as people try to fix it because it usually turns out like frozen vanilla soup.

For posterity, here are some variations. 🧵
Thanks @joeltelling.bsky.social for speaking up for all of us who love this hobby (and laser cutters, and CNC routers, …).

I really hope my rep (and co-sponsor) @repleavitt.bsky.social takes you up on this invitation.

Love the community note that got added on to the Democrats' tweet about their deranged and harmful efforts to dismantle Section 230.

New whistle for all of you wonderful 🚫🧊 people and your 3D printers. These are easier to print and (as far as I can tell) louder than the other heart-shaped ones a lot of groups have been printing.

I don't think I'll ever read one of Chuck's books, but I absolutely love his energy and I'm glad that people like him exist in this world.

"Democrats declare crime illegal" sounds like the Onion headline.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Thursday said House Democrats will demand a ban on the deportation of American citizens as a condition of winning their support for legislation funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Reminder: when @propublica.org sends out your annual donation summary, you can reply and (politely!) tell them how their failing to negotiate a good contract with @propublicaguild.org, and planned use of randomly-generated content (aka "AI tools") will harm their image and affect future donations.

stop using AI to do your research. it hallucinates too often. if you want an answer to something, post something arrogant on the appropriate subreddit. something like: "this item performs 10% better than everything else. only idiots deny this." this will bait nerds into doing your research for you.

No. Go away. I hate this world where parody has too much of a chance to turn into reality.

Hey @thenation.com there's a bug in your renewal process. You billed me 2 months early for my subscription so privacy-dot-com blocked the transaction. But now I'm totally locked out from the site until I pay the bill, despite the fact that my account is supposed to remain active until March.

Fuck. Stay safe out there (as much as you can).

Hurray … my state is trying to accidentally outlaw open source 3d printers, CNCs, and firmware. Anyway, please comment on this awful bill if you're in WA or a maker of 3d printers.

Democrats will continue to vote for Republican judges (like this guy, who refused to say who won the 2020 election) until Democrats are punished for voting for Republican judges
Alexander Van Hook is confirmed 53-40 to be a District Judge of Western Louisiana. According to @senatepress.bsky.social, the Dems yeas are Dick Durbin (IL), Maggie Hassan (NH), Tim Kaine (VA), Amy Klobuchar (MN), Jeanne Shaheen (NH), and Peter Welch (VT). Angus King (I-ME) was also a yea.

Ignoring the fact that it says butter is even healthier, does anyone else find it exceptionally odd that this new food pyramid shows white rice (if you add some kidney beans) as being a healthier option than whole grains?

I occasionally look through my spam folder for false positives. Today, I noticed a Nigerian Prince scam email except the prince is "I, Donald J. Trump, 47th President of the United States of America."

Easily detected as a scam because the grammar is too good and absolutely nothing IS IN ALL CAPS. 🤣

Not enough to make me move back from the suburbs … but good riddance! Seattle is a wonderful place but SPD and SPOG have long been … eyesores (teargas and rubber bullets hurt!) … and if she can scare away his likes just by being there, maybe her aura will extend south to Pierce County's sheriff.
Watch out, she's already moved on to pig blood!

After almost 2 weeks off work (and a couple months distracted by other projects), I _finally_ got out to the shop to resume work on the kid's bed. I forgot what a pain it is to cut proper square miters on a table saw. Because this is wood, I had to cut these at 44.8° in order to get a 90° corner.

FFS what's the point of ordering from DoorDash if everything is labeled as "Description generated by DoorDash using AI"? How can I trust that something labeled "vegetarian" actually is, especially when it seems like DoorDash just invented variations that aren't on the restaurant's own website?

Great breakdown from @madewithlayers.bsky.social about the new @prusa3d.com OCL. TLDW:

- may not apply to CAD/source files, anyway
- probably doesn't limit what people do with printed objects (neither do CC licenses)
- doesn't define "community open"

I'll add a couple more of my own below… 🧵
Prusa's OCL is... weird.
