I feel, perhaps predictably, strongly about this. If you also do, this post shows a way to steer your borrowing with Libby to books with a real person doing the audiobook reading.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Overall, I loved the first half of #ST:S5.

Pluses:
I LOVE Will's plotline this season. That finale was an absolute banger, and his interactions with Robin are really sweet.

Mike! It's fine that he was a dummy in the last season but getting back to a S1 loyal brave but older Mike is great.

Just imagining how much better it would be if ALL news stories about vaccine-preventable illnesses were illustrated with pictures of people with the disease, not pictures of needle injections. If you must show something that people will find scary & unpleasant, make it the disease, not the cure.
I'm so tired of measles.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Show what measles looks like.

I read college applications for a top-100 university and have for ten years now. They’re getting notably worse. I expected the essays to jump in quality bc of ChatGPT, but many haven’t, which leads me to believe they don’t even know their essays are poorly done. Same students: A+ in AP English.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

This might work for your brain but studies have also shown that people with ADHD often also sleep worse after caffeine. This doesn’t work me, for example, bc caffeine makes my heart race and that makes me uncomfortable. Give it a shot, but YMMV!
This.
If you have ADHD and have trouble getting to sleep, try drinking a stimulant like coffee before bed.

The idea is you stimulate the brain out of deficit, so instead of it trying to manufacture dopamine, it can rest.
I took stimulants, drank a coffee, and had an energy drink so now it's time to pass out because ADHD is A TRIP.

Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.

So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.
